LOG ENTRY: DAY 01 - THE BETA FRONTIER
Location: Region V, Uncharted Sector
Status: Hyper-fixated
Pokedex Count: 0/???
I touched down in the Pokemon V region with the shakes. You know the kind. The kind you get when Headquarters promises a new ecosystem with species up to Generation 8, but the stamp on the dossier says "Beta 1". My completionist nervous system went into overdrive immediately. Is this a full expedition, or am I walking into a void? I judge regions by their catchability, and my scanner was picking up mixed signals.
THE ANOMALY: TEMPORAL DISPLACEMENT
The intel claimed I’d find species from the Galar sector (Gen 8) here, despite the region’s last structural update being dated 2018. I fired up the DexNav. Anomalies detected. I saw sprites that shouldn't exist in this timeline. It’s a chaotic mix. The local technology supports Mega Evolution—a huge win for power-scaling—and the Day & Night cycle affects spawn rates, which usually tickles my hunting brain in the right way.
However, the ecosystem feels... unstable. I encountered "Glitch Cities" where the collision data failed. It's hard to maintain a 100% catch rate when the ground beneath you dissolves into hexadecimal soup.
THE HUNT: INCOMPLETE DATA
I started my usual routine. Route 1. Catch everything. Check the grass until the encounter slots are exhausted. But the deeper I went, the more the cracks showed. The narrative—something about new characters and a fresh plot—is there, but it cuts off. It’s like reading a book where the last 200 pages are blank.
NOTE: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave near the second town. The warp tiles are unstable and might trap you in a logic loop.
My biggest fear was realized: The Pokedex is unobtainable. Not because of difficulty, but because the world literally ends. For a guy who doesn't sleep until the checklist is full, this is torture. I was ready to grind. I was ready to say "Living Dex is possible without cheats." But you can't catch what hasn't been coded yet.
THE VERDICT: A FRAGMENTED REALITY
The visuals are standard FireRed architecture with some modern coats of paint. The "Threat Level" (difficulty) is inconsistent—sometimes the Gym Leaders use advanced tactics, other times they roll over like a Level 3 Bidoof. It feels like a prototype for a grand adventure that was abandoned by its architect.
100% completion took me 4 hours. Not 85. Not 100. Four. because that's all there is. I’m staring at empty slots #493 through #890 and I can't fill them. I’m sweating. I need to leave this region before the lack of closure gives me an aneurysm.
FINAL LOG
If you're looking for a quick snack, visit Region V. If you're looking for a meal, you'll starve. The "Link Cable" item is missing, the post-game is non-existent, and my Pokedex remains tragically incomplete.
