Our Pen Name Policy: Privacy for the Community
At PokemonROMWorld, honesty is our currency. However, the ROM hacking community exists in a unique space. Many of our contributors are active developers, long-time community figures, or professionals in the tech industry who prefer to separate their hobby from their career.
To allow them to critique hacks freely without fear of professional repercussions or community backlash, we utilize editorial pseudonyms (pen names).
Real Expertise
When a bio states "15 years Nuzlocke veteran," this reflects verified, real-world experience. The background is authentic; only the name and avatar are stylized to protect privacy.
Unfiltered Opinions
Anonymity gives our reviewers the shield they need to be brutally honest about bugs, difficulty spikes, or quality issues. They serve the player, not the creator.
Review Methodology
We do not regurgitate feature lists from PokeCommunity threads. Every review adheres to a strict 4-step process:
Patch Verification
We verify the patching process ourselves. If a patch is broken, requires a specific exotic bios, or is incompatible with standard emulators, we report it.
Hardware/Emulator Testing
We prioritize testing on mGBA (industry standard) and often verify on real hardware (flashcarts) to catch bugs that older emulators might miss.
Contextual Grading
A 5-star rating implies the hack excels within its specific sub-genre (e.g., a 'Kaizo' hack is rated against other difficulty hacks, not against vanilla remakes).
Blind Review
Our reviewers verify the game themselves. We don't rely on other sites' ratings to form our opinions.
Independence
- âNo Pay-to-Play: We strictly do not accept payment from creators to feature or rate their hacks.
- $Free Forever: ROM hacks are community projects. We link directly to patches, never to pre-patched ROMs, protecting both you and the creators.
AI Disclosure
- đData Processing: We use AI tools to assist with metadata gathering (release dates, version history) and formatting.
- đī¸Human Oversight: Every review is verified by human players. The opinions, ratings, and frustration with Victory Road puzzles reflect real human experiences.
