MISSION REPORT: POKEMON SHINING VICTORY
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Unknown Sector (Shining Victory)
Expedition Duration: 12 hours, 47 minutes
Pokedex Completion: 23.4% (INCOMPLETE - REGION UNFINISHED)
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. Let me get this out of my system first: this region is INCOMPLETE. Four gyms. FOUR. My Pokedex is screaming at me. There are empty slots everywhere and I cannot fill them because the content simply does not exist yet. This is Beta 4.2, and my completionist brain is having a full meltdown.
But let's talk about what IS here, because there's actually some interesting tech in this sector.
THE LANDSCAPE
You're playing as Ash. Yes, THAT Ash. The eternal ten-year-old himself. The region features new tilesets and DS-style overworld sprites for NPCs, which honestly looks clean. Pokemon appear in the overworld like in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee - you can see them walking around and interact directly to initiate battles. This is HUGE for target hunting specific species.
The visual landscape combines elements from multiple generations. Day and night cycles are functional, which affects encounter tables. I spent three hours documenting spawn differences between 2 PM and 2 AM local time. My spreadsheet now has 47 new entries.
POKEDEX AVAILABILITY REPORT
Here's where I start twitching. The regional dex includes Pokemon from Gens 1-7 PLUS select Gen 8 species. We're talking Alolan Forms, Galarian Forms, plus regional variants called "Heron Forms" and "Thonsu Forms" that I've never encountered in any other sector. There are also Pikachu Forms and Halloween Forms scattered throughout.
CRITICAL INTEL: Trade Pokemon evolve with different methods in this region. No Link Cable item confirmed yet, but evolution stones and alternative triggers exist. Need to verify full evolution availability in future builds.
The increased shiny chances are REAL. I encountered 3 shinies in under 13 hours. The exact odds are unclear, but this is significantly higher than standard 1/8192. For hunters, this is promising. However - and this hurts to type - shiny hunting method verification is impossible because the game isn't finished. No DexNav. No chain mechanics that I could identify. Just boosted base odds.
QUALITY OF LIFE TECHNOLOGY
The local tech is surprisingly advanced for a beta build:
- BW Repel System: Best QoL: Infinite Repel system. When your Repel runs out, it asks if you want to use another. My finger muscles thank the developers.
- BW Egg Hatch System: Streamlined hatching. Good for breeding projects.
- EV/IV Viewer: BUILT IN. No need for external calculators. I can see exact values. This is essential for competitive breeding.
- Running Shoes from start: No waiting. No slow early game slog.
- Run indoors: YES. FINALLY.
- Poison Survival: Pokemon survive at 1 HP instead of fainting in the field.
- Infinite TM Use: Standard modern feature, but still appreciated.
- Experience on catching: Exp gain from captures. Helps with grinding.
Physical/Special split is implemented. Fairy typing exists. Moves from Gens 4-7 are present. Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Primal Reversion are all supposedly available, though I only confirmed Mega Evolution in my playthrough.
THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT
Difficulty is... inconsistent. Some trainer battles felt appropriately challenging. Others were pushovers. The story is described as "intense" in the briefing, and there are definitely dramatic moments involving Professor Kukui and various rivals. But with only 4 gyms available, I can't assess late-game scaling.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Actually, save before entering ANYTHING. Beta builds are unpredictable. I encountered zero game-breaking anomalies, but I'm paranoid by nature.
CRITICAL CONCERNS
My primary issue: Living Dex is NOT possible. Cannot be possible. The game stops at 4 gyms. Post-game? Nonexistent. Battle Frontier? Dream on. The content simply isn't there yet.
The tag list from HQ is confusing - it says "Completed" but also "4 gyms" and "Beta 4.2". This is contradictory intel. Field verification confirms: THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE GAME. Do not enter this region expecting 100% completion. You will leave disappointed and possibly crying into your Pokedex.
No player community intel was available for verification. I'm operating on pure field observation here.
FINAL EXPEDITION NOTES
Look. The bones are here. The QoL features are solid. The Pokemon variety is genuinely impressive. Playing as Ash with access to Megas, Z-Moves, and seven generations of Pokemon SOUNDS amazing on paper.
But I cannot in good conscience recommend this to fellow completionists. Not yet. My Pokedex sits at 23.4% and there is physically no way to increase that number until more content releases. That's not a flaw in my methodology. That's a wall.
For casual explorers who just want to mess around in a feature-rich beta? Sure, take a look. For anyone with my particular neurological condition regarding empty Pokedex slots? Wait for a complete build.
I'll be monitoring this region for updates. When - IF - it reaches completion, I'll return for a full 100% expedition. Until then, my spreadsheet remains tragically incomplete.
- DexHunter Ace, signing off at 23.4% and deeply unsatisfied
