MISSION REPORT: POKEMON ULTRA VIOLET
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Kanto Extended Sector (4-Points Isle Discovery)
Mission Duration: 38 hours, 47 minutes
Pokedex Completion: 386/386 (100.00%)
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
I'm shaking. My hands are literally shaking as I write this. You know that feeling when you open a ROM hack and the first thing you see is "Completable Pokedex" in the description? That dopamine hit? Yeah. LocksmithArmy gets it. This person GETS IT.
Ultra Violet is built on one beautiful, obsessive premise: Living Dex is possible without cheats. No trading. No events you missed because you weren't alive in 2004. No "transfer from Emerald" nonsense. Just you, your cartridge, and 386 slots waiting to be filled.
THE LANDSCAPE
Kanto looks... familiar. Because it IS familiar. This isn't a visual overhaul situation—we're running standard FireRed textures. But here's the thing: I don't care about pretty. I care about CATCHABLE. And this region? This region delivers.
The crown jewel is 4-Points Isle, accessible via a humble NPC in Vermilion City's southern district. This artificial archipelago houses EVERY Generation 3 species. Trapinch colonies in the desert sector. Ralts populations in the northern grass. Bagon nesting grounds that had me camping for three real-world hours because I needed that Salamence line DOCUMENTED.
FIELD NOTE: 4-Points Isle unlocks post-S.S. Anne. Do NOT rush. Stock up on balls. I burned through 200 Great Balls in my first expedition.
COMPLETIONIST INFRASTRUCTURE
Let me tell you about the QoL features that made me weep tears of pure serotonin:
- Trade Evolutions: Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W. Celadon Dept. Store, 4th floor. I bought seventeen of them. SEVENTEEN. Machamp? Done. Alakazam? Done. Gengar? DONE.
- Version Exclusives: LeafGreen species integrated directly into the wild encounter tables. Sandshrew AND Ekans in the same route. My spreadsheet wept.
- Evolution Stones: Sun Stones, Moon Stones, all the stones—available through various means. No more soft-resetting for Pickup Meowth RNG.
- Starter Selection: You can catch your own starter species in the wild. Bulbasaur line in Viridian Forest extension. Charmander in Kindle Road. Squirtle in Seafoam depths. I caught all three within 6 hours of starting.
The creator literally said "how can you evolve your Sunkern if you don't have any Sun Stones" and then FIXED IT. This is what game design looks like when a completionist is at the helm.
THREAT ASSESSMENT
Difficulty-wise, we're looking at standard FireRed curve. Gym Leaders haven't been given competitive movesets or EVs. Hostile entities pose moderate threat at best—nothing that strategic type coverage can't handle. This isn't Radical Red; this is a collection expedition, not a survival mission.
That said, wild Pokemon level scaling on 4-Points Isle can spike unexpectedly. Encountered a LVL 45 Absol when my team averaged 38. Nearly lost my shiny hunt streak to a critical hit.
MISSABLE EVENT WARNING! The Mew encounter requires specific trigger conditions. Save before entering Cerulean Cave. I repeat: SAVE BEFORE CERULEAN CAVE.
SHINY HUNTING PROTOCOLS
Bad news first: No modern shiny hunting methods here. No DexNav. No chain fishing. No Masuda Method implementation. We're running vanilla Gen 3 odds—1/8192. The old ways. The HARD ways.
Good news: Full odds hunting is still viable because every species IS AVAILABLE. I'll take 1/8192 odds on a catchable Mew over 1/512 odds on a Mew that doesn't exist any day.
Soft-reset targets confirmed functional: Legendaries, Gift Pokemon, Starters. Tested Mewtwo resets personally—113 resets before I gave up and moved on. The hunt continues.
POST-GAME EVALUATION
Here's where I have to temper expectations. Post-game is... limited. Once you've swept the Elite Four and caught the legendary trifecta, your objectives are:
- Complete the National Dex (the REAL game)
- Sevii Islands content (standard FireRed)
- 4-Points Isle cleanup
No Battle Frontier. No additional challenge modes. No New Game+. The post-game exists to serve one purpose: catching everything. And honestly? For a hack with this specific mission statement? That's enough. That's exactly enough.
ANOMALY LOG
Encountered minor textual anomalies—some NPC dialogue references original FireRed events that don't quite align with modified content. Non-critical. No game-breaking glitches detected across my 38-hour expedition. Region stability: HIGH.
One visual anomaly on 4-Points Isle where tileset seams are visible near the desert-to-grass transition. Cosmetic only. Did not impede catching operations.
FINAL EXPEDITION NOTES
100% completion took me 38 hours, 47 minutes. That's fast. That's REALLY fast for a full 386 Living Dex. The streamlined availability of every species means no wasted hours on impossible hunts or trade negotiations with yourself across two emulator instances.
Is this the most ambitious hack? No. Is it the prettiest? No. Is it the hardest? Absolutely not.
But is it the most COMPLETABLE vanilla-adjacent Kanto experience available? Yes. Unequivocally yes.
LocksmithArmy built this for people like me. People who stare at empty Pokedex slots like they're personal failures. People who need that 100.00% or they can't sleep. This hack respects that neurosis. It ENABLES that neurosis.
And for that, it earns a permanent slot in my archives.
EXPEDITION STATUS: COMPLETE
POKEDEX: 386/386
LIVING DEX: ACHIEVED
SANITY: QUESTIONABLE BUT SATISFIED
