MISSION REPORT: POKEMON ULTRA BLAZE
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Onalowa
Base Sector: FireRed Infrastructure
Status: Beta 1.1 — INCOMPLETE EXPEDITION
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. Let me tell you about the 12 hours I just lost in Onalowa Region chasing a dream that doesn't exist yet. My completion percentage? 47.3%. And that number is BURNING a hole in my brain because I physically cannot push it higher. This is a Beta 1.1 situation, folks. The region exists. The story exists. But my Pokedex? My beautiful, precious Pokedex is screaming at me with empty slots that have no current pathway to completion.
CRITICAL NOTICE: This is labeled Beta 1.1. Treat all progression data as provisional. Your save file is a hostage.
THE LANDSCAPE
Onalowa Region presents itself as a crossroads dimension — Alolan entities have migrated here, Ultra Beasts phase through rifts, and somehow Team Flare decided this was their vacation destination. The visual landscape uses custom tile work that's genuinely impressive for FireRed architecture. Vibrant tropical zones, volcanic areas that actually feel threatening, and some surprisingly polished overworld sprites for Gen 7 species.
The Rideable Pokemon system? Actually functional. I spent twenty minutes just riding a Tauros through Route 3 because the movement felt smooth. That's twenty minutes I could have spent hunting, but the dopamine hit was worth it.
POKEDEX VIABILITY ASSESSMENT
Here's where my eye starts twitching. The regional dex includes Gen 7 Pokemon, Ultra Beasts, and Alolan Forms. Mega Evolution stones are scattered throughout. Ash-Greninja is obtainable through story progression. On paper? This should be paradise.
In practice? Living Dex is NOT possible in current build. I repeat: NOT POSSIBLE. Several evolutionary lines are truncated. Trade evolutions appear to lack alternative methods — I found no Link Cable item in any Department Store or mart inventory. No Link Stone. No alternative evolution trigger. This is a MAJOR gap for any serious collector.
Missable event warning! The Lunala encounter appears to be story-locked with no replay mechanism. Save before entering Lysandre's facility. I cannot stress this enough.
Ultra Beast availability is... unclear. I encountered Nihilego in a story sequence but capture wasn't possible at that point. Whether post-game access exists remains unknown because the post-game content appears incomplete or inaccessible in this version.
QUALITY OF LIFE INFRASTRUCTURE
Mixed signals here. Some modern conveniences exist:
- Infinite Repel toggle: NOT PRESENT. Manual repel application required. My thumb hurts.
- Running Shoes: Available from start. Thank the Distortion World.
- Pokemon Storage: Standard PC system, no mass-release function detected.
- Shiny hunting method: UNTESTED. No DexNav equivalent. No chain mechanics I could identify. Base encounter rates only.
The Mega Evolution implementation works but requires specific story progression to unlock the Key Stone. Mega Stones themselves are scattered with no in-game tracker or hint system. I found Charizardite Y in a random house. Just... sitting there. No NPC dialogue. No quest. Just vibes.
THREAT LEVEL ANALYSIS
Hostile entities proved moderately dangerous. Gym Leaders use full teams with held items and coverage moves. Nothing approaching Radical Red brutality, but trainers aren't pushovers either. Level curve felt reasonable through the available content — no sudden spikes that required grinding sessions.
Team Flare grunts are appropriately annoying. Lysandre's characterization as an ultra-power-obsessed villain tracks with established canon. Lusamine's involvement creates interesting faction dynamics, though the writing quality varies scene to scene.
ANOMALY LOG
Beta status means anomalies. Documented issues:
- One NPC in Coral City walks through walls. Concerning but non-blocking.
- Text overflow in several dialogue boxes — characters get cut off mid-sentence.
- One softlock potential: entering the Power Plant from the eastern door before obtaining Surf can trap you. Save frequently.
- Some Pokemon cries don't match their species. Heard a Rowlet screech like a Fearow. Unsettling.
COMPLETION METRICS
Current documented playtime: 12 hours to reach apparent content wall. Estimated full completion if content existed: 30-40 hours based on regional scope. Actual 100% completion status: IMPOSSIBLE in current build.
This is the part where I stare at my spreadsheet and it stares back, empty cells mocking me. The bones of a complete experience exist here. The flesh hasn't grown in yet.
FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT
Pokemon Ultra Blaze has ambition. Gen 7 integration into FireRed infrastructure is technically impressive. The Solgaleo/Lunala cosmic conflict provides narrative stakes. Custom graphics show genuine effort. Rideable Pokemon work smoothly.
But I cannot recommend this expedition for completionists. Not yet. The Pokedex gaps are too severe. The post-game is either hidden or nonexistent. Trade evolution alternatives appear absent. Shiny hunting infrastructure is baseline at best.
This is a "wait for update" situation. When — IF — this reaches full release status with complete availability and proper evolution alternatives, reassessment will be required. Until then, my Pokedex weeps, and I move to the next region.
EXPLORER'S NOTE: Creator shows promise. Region has potential. But potential doesn't fill Pokedex slots. Come back when the Link Cable item is available in Department Store. That's when we talk.
