LOG ENTRY: DAY 1 - THE KINIA REGION
I dusted off the old Flashcart for this one. The mission briefing mentioned 'Time and Space' and 'the beginning of creation'. Back in my day, the only existential crisis we had was choosing between a fossilized shell or a dome. I stepped into the Kinia region expecting a simple gym challenge, but instead, I was thrust into a sci-fi soap opera involving Deoxys. My knees aren't what they used to be; I don't need to be jumping through 'time vortexes'. Just give me a bicycle and a straight road.
THE LOCAL WILDLIFE
Despite the high-concept nonsense about the universe's origin, the ecosystem here is surprisingly grounded. I didn't see a single one of those floating keychains or ice cream cones the kids catch these days. The intel claims all specimens are from the first three generations. No gimmicks, just good Pokemon. It was a relief to run into a Zigzagoon instead of some over-designed monstrosity.
However, the region itself feels... unstable. The locals (NPCs) speak in riddles—likely a side effect of the translation matrix malfunctioning. I prefer my dialogue plain: 'I like shorts! They are comfy and easy to wear!' Simple. Effective.
VISUALS AND ANOMALIES
The visual landscape is built on the Ruby engine, and for the most part, the sprite work is faithful to Gen 3 style. The distinct red hue of the interface brought me back to 2003, squinting at my non-backlit screen under a lamp. But this 'Time Vortex' mechanic? It feels less like a feature and more like a tear in the reality of the cartridge. I encountered several structural anomalies where the world didn't seem quite finished.
NOTE: If the screen starts flickering or the text turns to gibberish, that's not a 'Time Warp', that's a crash. Save often. Real explorers don't use save states, but for this mission, I'll make an exception.
FINAL FIELD NOTES
I appreciate the attempt to stick to the older roster. Finally, a hack that respects the classics. But the narrative tries too hard to be deep. I miss the days when the villains just wanted to steal Slowpoke tails for profit. This 'exploring the meaning of creation' business is above my pay grade. It's a decent expedition if you ignore the plot and just focus on training your Swampert, but don't expect a polished gem just yet.
