LOG ENTRY: DAY 42 - THE PUPPET MASTER
I haven't blinked in six hours. My eyes are dry, but my spirit is vibrating at a frequency that could shatter glass. I've just returned from the Touhoumon Another World sector (Base: FireRed), and let me tell you, the taxonomy here is a nightmare for a casual, but a paradise for a grinder like me. We aren't dealing with biological pocket monsters anymore. We are dealing with Boneka. Sentient puppets. 386+ entries. My spreadsheet is bleeding red ink.
The local Professor handed me an "iDollDex". Cute name. Dangerous implications. It separates the collection into Kanto, Hoenn, and World sectors. Do you know what that means? It means I can't rest until I unlock the World Dex. The mission isn't over when the credits roll; the mission is over when the data reaches 100%.
THE COLLECTION PROTOCOL
This region operates on a modified FireRed engine, but the fauna has been completely replaced. Instead of a Pidgey, you're staring down a Chibi-Reimu. For a completionist, this is a total reset of muscle memory. I had to relearn type matchups on the fly, though the TMs and HMs remain standard tech (a small mercy).
FIELD NOTE: The "Boneka" have distinct evolutionary lines. Most evolve via Level Up or Stones. I spent 12 hours farming shards just to test evolution theories.
Living Dex is possible without cheats. I repeated that mantra to myself while trekking through the Sevii Islands. The distinct lack of trade evolutions—replaced by stone evolutions or level thresholds—is a blessing. If I had to find a second unit to trade evolve a puppet, I would have screamed. The developers understood the assignment: make everything obtainable solo.
THREAT LEVEL & ANOMALIES
The difficulty curve is steeper than standard Kanto. The Gym Leaders aren't just tossing out Rattatas; they are using fully evolved Boneka with synergy. However, the lack of a Physical/Special split (standard Gen 3 mechanics apply here) means you have to rely on old-school knowledge. It’s archaic, but functional.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Specifically, when hunting the "Legendary" Boneka equivalents. They don't respawn if you knock them out. I paralyzed a high-level Flandre with a twitching eye and a Master Ball ready. One crit would have ruined a 40-hour run.
POST-GAME & VERDICT
The real meat is the World Dex. Once the Elite Four falls, the region opens up. You aren't just filling slots; you are hunting inter-dimensional entities. 100% completion took me 85 hours. That includes breeding for specific natures because I'm incapable of doing things halfway.
Is it perfect? No. It lacks modern amenities like the DexNav or infinite TMs. But the sheer volume of collectables? The satisfaction of seeing that iDollDex hit triple digits? It's pure dopamine. If you are the type of Explorer who needs to catch 'em all, even if 'all' are anime puppets, this is your grind.
