LOG ENTRY: 0830-2014 // REGION: SUPER MEGA EMERALD
CURRENT STATUS: Twitching. My Pokedex counter is stuck. I need answers.
I touched down in this iteration of Hoenn expecting a modern overhaul. The intel promised "Super Mega" advancements. What I found was... an archaeological dig site of ROM hacking technology. My completionist brain is screaming. This isn't the seamless integration of the modern era; this is a wild frontier of manual labor.
THE "MEGA" ANOMALY
Let's address the elephant—or the Primal Groudon—in the room. The local scientists claim to have achieved Mega Evolution. False. They have achieved permanent genetic mutation via retail therapy.
Here is the situation: You don't press a button in battle to Mega Evolve. No, no, no. You go to the Lilycove Department Store, you buy a rock, and you force-feed it to your Pokemon to change its form permanently outside of combat. To revert? You have to buy another rock. This is a logistical nightmare for my boxes! I have organized my Living Dex by National ID, and these permanent Mega forms are creating unregistered anomalies in my filing system. Are they separate species? Do they have their own slots? My spreadsheet is in ruins.
WARNING: The mechanics here are dated (circa 2014). Do not expect the Physical/Special split or modern stat calculations. This is old-school warfare.
CATCHABILITY & THE HUNT
On the positive side, the local fauna diversity has seen an uptick. I confirmed visual contact with starters from both Johto and Hoenn regions in the wild. This saves me significant breeding time.
However, I am deeply concerned about the trade evolutions. I searched the marts high and low. Usually, in a region like this, the Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W. But here? The inventory is cluttered with these manual Mega Stones. I haven't confirmed a safe method to evolve my Kadabra without external comms. If I can't get Alakazam solo, my 100% run is dead in the water.
POST-GAME & QOL
The region is effectively a mirror of standard Emerald, which is a blessing and a curse. The Post-game is massive. Battle Frontier included. That's the gold standard. But navigating it feels sluggish without modern amenities. I found myself instinctively reaching for a DexNav that doesn't exist.
I spent hours grinding for the "Mega" Legendaries. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. The encounter scripts for the Primal forms can be finicky. If you knock out Kyogre here, it might not come back, and that empty slot #382 will haunt you until the end of time.
FINAL LOG
100% completion took me 45 hours. But it was a hollow victory. This region is a artifact of a different time. It tries to bring the future (Megas) to the past (Gen 3) but lacks the infrastructure to support it. It’s not a habitat for a serious collector; it’s a curiosity shop.
