MISSION LOG: DAY 01 - THE BLIND EXPEDITION
I landed in the Summer Splash sector (Base: Emerald) expecting a tropical shiny hunt. I brought my sunscreen, my Link Cable, and my portable PC. I was ready to catalog every grain of sand. Then, the local Professor dropped the bomb. No Pokedex.
He said it with a smile. "Yay! No worries on how many Pokemon you see!" No worries? NO WORRIES? I started hyperventilating immediately. How am I supposed to track the regional variants? How do I know if I've cleared Route 1? I am flying blind here, people. My completion percentage is stuck at a theoretical 0% and it is itching my brain.
THE LANDSCAPE: SUN, SAND, AND EXECUTIONS
The visual landscape of this region is vibrant, I'll give it that. It's a permanent vacation vibe, supposedly set days before the events of Hoenn proper. But don't let the palm trees fool you. The local laws are draconian. Instead of Gyms, they have Arenas. Infinite battle loops. Efficient for grinding, yes, but the stakes are absurd.
WARNING: The "Optional PC Death" mechanic is a Level 5 Threat. If you fail to be a competent trainer, the local authorities execute you. Literally. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave... or the Arena. One bad crit and your save file is a ghost town.
THE FAUNA: ANOMALIES DETECTED
Despite the lack of a tracking device, I visually confirmed species from the Sinnoh and Unova sectors (Gen 4 & 5). I spotted what looked like a Snivy near the beach. I tried to confirm if a full Living Dex is possible without cheats, but without a Pokedex to verify the slots, I am forced to rely on manual spreadsheets. It's barbaric! I'm scribbling encounters on a napkin!
COMBAT & QOL PROTOCOLS
The combat mechanics have been updated to modern standards. The Physical/Special split is active, which makes the Gen 4 inclusions actually viable. The "Exp gain after capture" protocol is also in effect, which streamlines the grind. However, the lack of organization tools is a severe oversight for any serious explorer.
- Arenas: Re-battleable infinitely. Good for EV training, bad for my anxiety.
- Underwater Daycare: A unique facility. Functional, but wet.
- Merpeople: Hostile entities. Do not engage unless prepared for sass.
MISSION DEBRIEF
I clocked out early. Usually, 100% completion took me 85 hours in a region of this size, but the "Holiday Hack" nature of this expedition means it's shorter—and without a Pokedex, there is no 100%. It's a chaotic, fun romp for tourists, but for a LVL. 100 Explorer? It's a stress test.
