LOG ENTRY: SECTOR "SPLASH"
My palms are sweating. I’ve just returned from a region with the designation Pokemon Splashing em to death, and the nomenclature alone was enough to trigger a mild panic attack regarding the integrity of the database. Is this a Magikarp-only purgatory? A water-type monopoly? The answer is... complicated.
This isn't just a simple romp through Kanto. The geography has been terraformed. The maps are changed, the overworld sprites have been swapped out for fresh assets, and the local timeline has been destabilized with a Day & Night System. Visually, it’s a distinct biome, but as an Explorer, I care about the numbers. I care about the slots. And this region is a chaotic mix of potential and frustration.
THE CATCHABILITY INDEX
The local Professor offers a choice of starters from multiple generations right out of the gate. This is promising for the early game roster, but it immediately raises my blood pressure regarding the post-game acquisition of the rejected options. If I pick Torchic, is Mudkip gone forever? That's the nightmare.
I spent hours combing the tall grass. The encounter tables are modified, but without a dedicated document, I was flying blind. Living Dex is possible without cheats. At least, that's what my field notes suggest after scouring every route, but the anxiety of a missing Mythical kept me up at night. The custom scripts introduce new events, but they lack the polish of a regulated region like Unbound.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. The custom scripting in the mid-game dungeons can be volatile. I encountered a sequence break that almost locked me out of a legendary encounter. Backup your save files.
QUALITY OF LIFE & ANOMALIES
The Day & Night cycle adds immersion, but it complicates the hunt. Some species only appear during specific temporal windows, which is fine, but the transition visuals can be jarring. I didn't find a dedicated nature changer or IV scanner, which hurts the optimization process.
However, the sheer novelty of the map redesigns kept me engaged. It feels like an alternate dimension Kanto. But be warned: the polish isn't quite there. I ran into collision errors—invisible walls where there should be open paths. In my log, these are classified as "Glitch City pockets."
FINAL LOG
Is it a perfect specimen? No. The name is ridiculous, and the documentation is nonexistent, which is a cardinal sin for a completionist. But the thrill of the unknown is there. 100% completion took me 85 hours. Most of that was wandering around trying to figure out where the map changes led, but the Pokedex number went up, and the dopamine hit was real.
