LOG ENTRY: REGION SMERALDO (SECTOR IT-01)
Timestamp: 0300 Hours. Sleep Deprivation Level: Critical.
Location: Post-League Analysis Room.
Pokedex Status: 386/386 (Finally).
Current Mood: Twitchy.
I just spent the last week in the Smeraldo region. The locals speak a dialect known as "Italian," which required me to run a real-time translation matrix in my head, but language is no barrier when you are hunting for data. My completionist itch was flaring up bad, and this region promised a high density of hostile encounters. I needed that dopamine hit of a full box.
THE THREAT LANDSCAPE: TOTAL WARFARE
This isn't a vacation spot. The official intel wasn't kidding about the hostility. Every single trainer I encountered—from the Youngsters to the Gym Leaders—deployed a full squad of six biological weapons. And they don't fight one-on-one. Every battle is a Double Battle.
Do you know what that does to the pacing of a 100% run? It turns it into a marathon. I had to strategize every single encounter like it was the Elite Four. The removal of Effort Values (EVs) from the local physics engine means you can't grind for power; you have to rely on base stats and type matchups. It's pure, raw strategy, but it makes filling the Pokedex a dangerous game. If you faint, you lose the run (according to Nuzlocke protocols), but I was there to catch. And catch I did.
WARNING: The trainer density is suffocating. 100% completion took me 85 hours. That is 30% longer than standard Emerald projections due to the sheer volume of 6v6 Double Battles. Bring snacks.
BIOLOGICAL ANOMALIES & EVOLUTIONARY SHIFTS
Here is where the region gets interesting for a collector like me. The local Professor has manipulated the evolutionary triggers. I found Feebas evolving by level. Kingdra, Gengar, all the trade-locked species? They evolve naturally here. Living Dex is possible without cheats. This is the only way I can function. If I had to find a second unit to trade with to get a Gengar, I would have burned the cartridge.
However, there are strange mutations. Togetic here possesses the base stat total of a Togekiss. It's a monster. But the Eevee situation? Pure chaos. They evolve into Espeon or Umbreon based on "personality"? I spent 4 hours resetting for the right nature just to control that RNG. I need control. I cannot let a personality test dictate my box organization.
THE CATCHABILITY FACTOR
The variety of wild fauna has been cranked up. Routes that usually hold three species now hold six or seven. This is fantastic for the Dex count, but terrible for target farming without a Repel trick. I had to cross-reference the documentation constantly.
FIELD NOTE: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. The increased difficulty means legendary encounters are not victory laps; they are boss fights. If you are playing by Nuzlocke rules and you crit-kill Rayquaza, it's gone. I was sweating bullets throwing Ultra Balls at a Regice that was buffed to the moon.
FINAL LOG
Pokemon Smeraldo is a grueling expedition. It is not designed for the casual tourist; it is designed for the battle-hardened tactician. The "All Double Battles" gimmick is exhausting but undeniably distinct. It forces you to use Pokémon you'd usually box immediately. I found myself unironically using a Swalot because it had the bulk to survive the onslaught.
The region is cleared. The Pokedex is full. My eyes are burning. I need to organize my PC boxes by color gradient before I can rest.
