Some challenge

This time, we will be taken to a whole new place called Nihon Region. It is a combined region of Kanto – Johto – Hoenn, so big. There was a big war which involved so many people around and it happened 17 years ago. Because of the richness and beauty of the lands with the capable location on the map… many leaders wanted to have it as their own. Many brave warriors from Nihon Archipelago fought to the end of their lives with pride and honor. Unfortunately, those fights led to their deaths. And now, back to the present day… you are here. You are living on Melmond Island, this is a former territory of the Nihon Region under the name of Shikoku. Everyone has known about your father, he was one of the greatest samurai who ever lived here. The others weren’t, they thought he was a coward. Only you know who he really was. And now, the danger is approaching this region. Set everything aside and prepare for new incoming battles!

LOG ENTRY: DAY 1 - MELMOND ISLAND ANOMALY

I touched down in the Nihon Region with my standard kit: 500 Ultra Balls, a modified DexNav, and enough Max Repels to choke a Wailord. My objective? A full Living Dex sweep of this so-called "combined region" of Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn. The intel promised a massive map. My reality? A fever dream.

This isn't a standard expedition. The locals don't just command Pokemon; they engage in direct combat using "Knight Suits". I felt like I walked into a different dimension. I tried to catalog the local fauna, but the mechanics of this world are fundamentally rewritten. It's disorienting. I spent the first hour just trying to figure out if I could catch anything or if I was supposed to punch it.

THE LANDSCAPE: A FRAGMENTED DREAM

The geography is touted as the "Nihon Archipelago," a massive convergence of three major regions. Visually, it uses the FireRed engine to paint a picture of feudal Japan mixed with modern tech. The atmosphere is thick, aided significantly by the custom Japanese soundtrack which sets a distinct mood unlike the chiptune loops of Kanto. However, the boundaries are tight.

FIELD NOTE: The map data is incomplete. I hit invisible walls where the GPS indicated open ocean. This is characteristic of a "Demo Teaser" classification. My completionist soul is screaming in agony.

MECHANICS & ANOMALIES

The "Knight Suit" technology is the headline feature. Instead of the traditional turn-based proxy battles, you are thrust into the fray. It adds a layer of personal risk to the encounters. But for a collector? It's a nightmare. How do you catalog a creature you're busy wrestling? The catch mechanics are obscure, and the "Day/Night" cycle seems to trigger specific event flags that are currently unstable.

  • Tech Level: Experimental. The Knight Suits are cool, but buggy.
  • Threat Level: Unknown. Without a full party, I feel exposed.
  • Audio: Superior. The regional music is a bop.

THE COMPLETIONIST'S LAMENT

I played through the available content. 100% completion took me 85 hours... is what I WOULD say if this was the full release! In reality, I clocked out at barely 2 hours. The "Demo" wall hit me like a Giga Impact. There is no post-game here, only the promise of one. I checked the code for potential trade evolutions.

Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W.—at least, it appears in the item index for the full version. In this teaser? It's just a ghost in the machine. I can't verify if a Living Dex is possible without cheats because the Pokedex itself feels like a placeholder in this build.

SURVIVAL TIPS

If you do decide to drop into Melmond Island for a look, keep your head on a swivel. The scripting around the new mechanics is fragile.

WARNING: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. I encountered a script loop near the northern ruins that forced a hard reset. Save often, save early.

MISSION VERDICT

This is a prototype, a proof of concept. The ambition to merge three regions and introduce human-combat mechanics is high, suspiciously high. Until the barriers are lifted and the full Pokedex is unlockable, this is a museum trip, not a hunting expedition. I'm packing up and heading to a region with more catchable entities.
