LOG ENTRY: DAY 01 - LANDFALL IN HOENN SECTOR
My hands are shaking. Not from the cold—Hoenn is tropical—but from the sheer, unadulterated anticipation of a clean inventory. I have touched down in Pokemon Ruby Cross, and my Pokedex currently reads 000. That number is an insult to my existence. I intend to rectify it immediately.
This isn't the chaotic, feature-bloated Hoenn of recent years. This is a surgical strike on the original Ruby timeline. The mission parameters are strict: Vanilla mechanics, no physical/special split, no hand-holding. Just me, the tall grass, and a 1/8192 shiny rate. 100% completion took me 42 hours of pure, focused grinding, and I have notes.
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT: THE DREAM
I usually hyperventilate when I see the standard Gen 3 bag limit. But here? The local tech has evolved. We're talking expanded pockets. Items pocket size expanded to 120 slots. Do you understand what this means? I can hoard every X Attack and Nugget I find without tossing away vital Repels. It’s efficient. It’s beautiful.
FIELD NOTE: Pressing 'B' to hover the Run option in wild battles is a muscle-memory savior. It shaves exactly 0.8 seconds off every encounter. Over 5,000 encounters, that is an hour of my life reclaimed.
THE CATCHING PROTOCOL
HQ confirmed that trade evolutions have been altered. I tested this immediately on an Abra. Living Dex is possible without cheats. Alakazam, Gengar, Machamp—they are all obtainable solo. This is the bare minimum for a viable ecosystem, and Ruby Cross delivers. The encounter tables have been merged between Ruby and Sapphire variants, meaning I don't need to dual-wield GameBoys to complete the regional Dex.
However, be warned: The creator, Jaizu, has explicitly stated no increased shiny odds. If you are looking for handouts, leave the region. This is for the hunters who enjoy the pain. I spent 12 hours in Petalburg Woods looking for a shiny Shroomish. I didn't find it. 10/10 experience.
ANOMALIES AND QOL
The most critical upgrade to my expedition gear involves Hidden Machines. You can forget HMs directly from the Summary Screen. No Move Deleter required. This removes the logistical nightmare of carrying a Zigzagoon slave everywhere. I can actually run a full combat team.
- Font Selection: Option to switch between RS, Emerald, and FR fonts. I stick to Emerald. It’s crisper.
- TM Reusability: There is an option to not consume TMs. I turned this ON immediately. Single-use TMs are a relic of a darker age.
- Auto-Run: Press 'R'. I am speed.
THREAT ASSESSMENT
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. While this hack aims for a vanilla feel, the "Beta 1" status of the mission files suggests potential instability, though I encountered zero crashes. The threat level is standard Ruby. If you know your type matchups, you will survive. If you rely on the Physical/Special split to make your Sneasel useful... you are going to have a bad time. Adapt or faint.
