LOG ENTRY: 04:22 AM // LOCATION: ROUTE 10 CANYON
My eyes are burning, but I can't stop. I've been trekking through this retro-fitted simulation of Kanto for the last 48 hours straight. The visual data is confusing my nostalgia receptors—it's the Kanto architecture I know, but rendered entirely in the Generation 2 graphical engine. It's like walking through a memory that's been upscaled. Vibrant, colorful, and absolutely teeming with data points.
Current Pokédex Status: 287/300. That missing 13 is gnawing at my sanity.
THE HUNTING GROUNDS
The local fauna has been expanded. We're looking at a Regional Dex of roughly 300 entities. It's a tight, curated list, which usually implies a focused experience, but as a Collector, I get nervous when the number is that low. Where are the rest? Are they hiding in the code?
However, the acquisition methods are solid. The Trainer's Nook replacing the old Cable Club is a godsend for solo operatives. Living Dex is possible without cheats. I've confirmed trade evolutions can be triggered here, and the Wonder Trade system unlocks early. I spent six hours wonder-trading Rattatas just to see the ID spread. It's addictive. Dangerous.
THREAT ASSESSMENT: APEX ENTITIES
Standard Gym Leaders are one thing, but this region hosts "Apex Pokémon". Think Totem-style mechanics but with nastier stat spreads. They are uncatchable. I repeat: UNCATCHABLE. My balls just bounce off.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. These Apex dens are high-risk. While you can't catch the beast, they drop unique loot upon defeat. If you wipe, you might lose the chance at the drop depending on your save state hygiene. Do not rely on auto-saves.
Also, the combat protocols have been altered. The "Switch" battle style is gone. You are forced into "Set" mode. You don't get a free swap when I knock out your Pidgey. This increases the threat level significantly, forcing you to actually build a balanced team rather than sweeping with a single over-leveled starter.
LOGISTICS AND ANOMALIES
Movement is... different. The HM Fly is obsolete. instead, we have the Pidgeot Express. It costs money, but it adds a layer of immersion I didn't know I needed. It forces you to plan your routes rather than just teleporting willy-nilly. It feels like a real expedition.
I have found Hidden Grottos. I have a spreadsheet for Hidden Grotto locations and I'm not afraid to use it. They are the key to the rare encounters and items needed for that sweet 100%. Route 9 and 10 have been terraformed into canyons; the verticality adds time to the traversal, but the encounter tables there are fresh.
THE 95% PROBLEM
Here is the itch I can't scratch. The mission status is flagged as "95% Complete". For a casual tourist, this is fine. For me? It's torture. I can feel the missing content. The post-game feels like it's building toward a crescendo that isn't quite rendered yet. I have mapped every square inch of the available grid.
100% completion took me 85 hours. Well, 100% of what is currently available. When that final 5% drops, I will be the first one back in.
