MISSION REPORT: POKEMON REDEMPTION

Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Reimagined Kanto — "Redemption Sector"
Base Signal: FireRed
Build: Alpha 0.1B
Status: ABORTED — Region collapse at Gym 2 perimeter

EXPEDITION SUMMARY

Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. I need to talk about this one because my Pokedex is screaming at me and not in the good way. Not in the "one more Hidden Grotto and I hit 100%" way. In the "the entire region ran out of road and I'm standing at the edge of a cliff staring into unrendered void" way.

Pokemon Redemption drops you into Kanto as Ash Ketchum — yes, THE Ash — with promises of Gen 1-8 species, Mega Evolution, legendary encounters, hidden secrets, the whole buffet. The official dossier reads like a completionist's fever dream. Generations 1 through 8? New species unique to this region? Unlockable content in every corner? I packed my bags, loaded my spreadsheets, kissed my Living Dex goodbye, and shipped out.

I got roughly 2 hours and 14 minutes of actual explorable content before the world just... stopped existing.

FIELD LOG — HOUR 0:00 TO 2:14

Timestamp: 0:00 — Pallet Town Sector

Standard deployment. You're Ash. The opening beats follow the familiar Kanto cadence — Professor Oak, rival encounter, first route. Some Gen 1-8 species are indeed sprinkled into early grass patches, and I'll admit my heart rate spiked when I saw a Rookidee on Route 1. A Rookidee. In Kanto. My hand was already reaching for the spreadsheet.

But here's where the alarm bells started. I immediately tried to catalog what was available. The encounter tables felt... thin. Random, almost. Like someone scattered later-gen species into the tall grass without a distribution plan. No regional Pokedex documentation. No way to tell how many species are actually in this build versus how many are promised for a future that may never come.

Timestamp: 0:45 — First Gym (Pewter Sector)

Brock goes down. Standard affair. Nothing mechanically unusual. No evidence of the promised Mega Evolution system anywhere in the menus or item pools at this point. I checked. Twice. I checked the key items pocket eleven times. Don't judge me.

Timestamp: 1:30 — Route to Cerulean Sector

Pushed through Mt. Moon. Encountered a few more cross-gen species. Team Rocket grunts appeared with dialogue about their "reality-twisting plot," which tracks with the briefing intel. The narrative scaffolding is there — I can see the skeleton of what the creator wants this story to be. But it's bones without muscle. Cutscenes are brief, and the "twists and turns" promised in the dossier haven't materialized yet.

Timestamp: 2:14 — Cerulean City. End of the road.

Beat Misty. And then... nothing. The region terminates. No routes forward. No post-gym trigger. The expedition is over. My Pokedex completion sat at what I'd estimate as 3.7% of a theoretical full-gen roster. Maybe less. I have no way to verify because there's no in-region Pokedex tracking system that reflects the expanded species pool.

COMPLETIONIST ASSESSMENT — THE HARD TRUTH

⚠️ CRITICAL ANOMALY WARNING: This region is tagged as "Completed" in multiple intelligence databases. It is NOT completed. It is an Alpha 0.1B build playable up to the 2nd gym. This is a catastrophic mislabeling. If you deployed here expecting a full expedition, you will hit a wall at roughly 2 hours. Treat all "Completed" tags as HOSTILE MISINFORMATION.

Let me run down the checklist, because that's what I do. That's ALL I do.

  • Living Dex Possibility: Absolutely not. With only two gyms' worth of content and a fraction of the promised Gen 1-8 pool accessible, a Living Dex isn't even a conversation. It's a theoretical concept in a parallel universe where this project reaches 1.0.
  • Trade Evolutions: No evidence of a Link Cable item, evolution stone alternatives, or any QoL patch for trade-locked species. I checked the Department Store — there isn't a functional one yet. No Link Cable item is available in Department Store. That's not a complaint at this stage; there's barely a store at all.
  • Shiny Hunting: No modified shiny methods detected. No DexNav. No chain mechanics. No Shiny Charm. Base FireRed odds — 1/8192. At 2 hours of total content, you could shiny hunt on Route 1 for eternity, but why. There's nowhere to take them.
  • Mega Evolution: Promised in the briefing. Not implemented in this build, or if it is, it's inaccessible before Gym 3 — which doesn't exist yet.
  • Post-Game: There is no post-game. There is barely a mid-game. There is an early-game that stops.
  • Missable Content: Hard to have missables when there's almost nothing TO miss. But I'll say this: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Mt. Moon has some one-time item pickups and I have trust issues with alpha builds corrupting save data, so save early, save often, save like your Living Dex depends on it.
  • Legendaries/Mythicals: Zero encountered. Zero accessible. The dossier promises "legendary Pokemon and unlockable content" but none of that infrastructure exists in 0.1B.

QUALITY OF LIFE — REGIONAL TECHNOLOGY

There's essentially nothing to report here. No infinite Repel system. No reusable TMs. No EV/IV viewer. No speed-up toggle beyond emulator-side tools. The region runs on base FireRed technology with minimal modifications to the underlying systems. For a completionist, there are zero QoL hooks to latch onto.

The one thing I CAN say: it boots. It runs. I didn't encounter any hard-crash anomalies or glitch cities during my 2:14 expedition. The tilework is default Kanto. The species that ARE present load correctly in battle. It's stable — just barren.

THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT

Difficulty felt like unmodified FireRed. Gym Leaders used expected teams with no advanced AI tactics or competitive movesets. No EV-trained opponents. No held items on enemy Pokemon that I could detect. The hostile entities here are not the trainers — they're the expectations set by the project description.

THE SPREADSHEET DOESN'T LIE

Here's where I have to be brutally honest, because my spreadsheet is open and the cells are mostly empty and that makes me physically uncomfortable.

Pokemon Redemption, in its current Alpha 0.1B state, is a proof-of-concept. A first draft of a first chapter. The creator clearly has ambitions — 8 generations of species, Mega Evolution, a reimagined Team Rocket storyline, hidden secrets. I can see the vision. But vision without execution is just an empty Pokedex, and an empty Pokedex is my personal nightmare.

100% completion took me 2 hours and 14 minutes — not because the content is dense, but because there's only 2 hours and 14 minutes of region to explore. And "100%" here means "I walked into every accessible tile and fought every available trainer." My actual species completion percentage is unknowable because the target number doesn't exist yet.

The tagging on this one is a disaster. Multiple sources list it as "Completed" with tags spanning FireRed, Emerald, GBA across duplicate categories. That's not just inaccurate — it's actively misleading to Explorers who deploy based on completion status. I almost passed over confirmed-complete expeditions to come here. That stings.

FIELD NOTE: If you're a fellow completionist reading this — do NOT deploy to this region expecting a full expedition. Bookmark it. Check back in six months. Maybe a year. If the creator follows through on even half the promised features, this could become something worth cataloging. But right now, your time is better spent in regions that actually let you finish the Dex.

FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT

I wanted to love this. I wanted Gen 1-8 in reimagined Kanto. I wanted to hunt shinies with new methods, chase Mega Stones in hidden grottos, build a Living Dex across eight generations in a single cartridge. What I got was two gym badges and a road that ends at Cerulean City.

The foundation isn't broken — it's just unfinished. And "unfinished" is the kindest, most accurate word I can use. Rating reflects the current state of the build, not its potential. Potential doesn't fill Pokedex slots.

Expedition Status: INCOMPLETE — Region under construction.
Dex Completion: ~3.7% (estimated, unverifiable)
Return Recommended: Only after significant version updates.
