LOG ENTRY: LANDFALL IN ONYX BLUE
My pulse is currently resting at 120 BPM. Why? Because I just stepped off the truck in Little Root Town and the Professor didn't offer me a Treecko. He offered me a MEW. A literal deity of genetics as a starter. I checked the other balls: Celebi and Jirachi. I nearly hyperventilated. This isn't just a region; it's a completionist's fever dream.
I immediately checked my Pokedex. 0/386. The sweat is starting. I have work to do.
THE ECOLOGICAL DISASTER (IN A GOOD WAY?)
The local intelligence claimed that "All Pokemon in this game are from Gen I to Gen III. You can have them right on the first route." I treated this as hyperbole. It was not. I walked into the tall grass on Route 101 expecting a Wurmple. I found a Charmander. Then a Squirtle. Then a Bulbasaur.
While this sounds like paradise, for a hunter like me, it's statistical anarchy. The encounter tables are so diluted that finding a specific species requires patience bordering on madness. I spent four hours in one patch of grass just to confirm if the RNG was seeded correctly. Living Dex is possible without cheats. That is the only sentence that matters to me. If I can fill the box without a Gameshark, I am a happy man.
THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT
Do not let the cute Mythical starters fool you. The Gym Leaders here are not playing by League regulations. They have modified teams, better movesets, and higher levels. I walked into Roxanne's gym expecting a rock fight and got crushed by advanced tactics. It forces you to actually use that Mew instead of keeping it as a trophy.
FIELD NOTE: The claim of "No Bugs" seems mostly accurate, but the sheer density of species in early routes can cause some visual confusion. Keep your save file frequent.
THE HUNT FOR 100%
This expedition was a grind, but the good kind. The kind where your eyes burn but you can't look away because you still need a Feebas and you aren't leaving until you get one. Since the base architecture is Sapphire, we miss out on the Emerald Battle Frontier, but the Battle Tower is functional.
I have mapped out the locations. Legendary encounters are static, but you need to be careful. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave of Origin or the Regi chambers. If you knock them out, they are gone. No second chances in this timeline.
FINAL LOG
My Pokedex reads 386/386. The dopamine hit was immaculate. It's a chaotic hack, lacking the polish of modern rom-base upgrades, but it scratches the itch. 100% completion took me 85 hours. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to organize my PC boxes by color.
