MISSION LOG: DAY 1 - THE ANXIETY OF THE UNKNOWN
I landed in the region expecting a standard Kanto run, but the topography has been altered. The visual fidelity of this sector is surprisingly high—new tilesets, vibrant palettes. It feels like the simulation has been upgraded to a higher resolution. However, my Pokedex scanner is giving me vanilla readings, and that makes me nervous. I need more.
THE STARTER PROTOCOL
Forget Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. The local Professor (Oak's variant?) handed me a Nidoran♀. Huge W. Nidoqueen is a powerhouse, but this forces a complete shift in early-game routing. I spent three hours in the tall grass on Route 1 just to verify if the other starters were wild encounters. Result: Negative. My eye is twitching.
NOTE: Keep a Moon Stone in reserve. Do not evolve Nidorina until she learns Crunch at Level 24 (or Bite at 22 depending on the Gen mechanics used here). Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave at Mt. Moon.
THE DATA VOID
Here is the problem with "Play to find out more" regions: I don't know the encounter tables. I spent 45 minutes fishing in a puddle in Viridian City because I heard a rumor (voice in my head) about a Magikarp variant. Nothing. The game is essentially FireRed with a fresh coat of paint and a Nidoran protagonist. For a casual tourist, it's a scenic route. For a Dex Hunter? It's purgatory.
ANOMALIES DETECTED
- Language Barrier: The locals speak exclusively in Spanish. Fortunately, "Pokemon" is a universal language, but story nuances were lost in translation.
- Map Design: The layout changes are refreshing, but the collision detection in the new forests is suspect. I got stuck behind a tree for 12 seconds. Unacceptable efficiency loss.
FINAL TALLY
100% completion took me 35 hours. Why so short? Because it's just the Kanto Dex. No hidden regions, no secret 493 expansion. I have confirmed that a Living Dex is possible without cheats, strictly because it adheres so closely to the base FireRed wild data, but don't expect any surprises. It scratches the itch, but it doesn't cure the fever.
