MISSION LOG: REGION METAL RED
Timestamp: 0300 Hours
Location: Kanto Sector (Heavily Modified)
Status: Caffeine levels critical. Pokedex at 98%. Hands shaking.
I don't know who authorized the genetic splicing in this region, but my scanner is picking up over 900 distinct biological signatures. We are talking Gen 1 through Gen 8 inhabiting the standard Kanto topography. I stepped into Route 1 and tripped over a Wooloo. The density of species here is overwhelming. For a completionist, it's paradise... or purgatory. I haven't decided yet.
THE CATCH: QUANTITY OVER CEREMONY
My primary directive is the Living Dex. Living Dex is possible without cheats. However, the distribution methodology is... chaotic. The local authorities (Intel) claim that "All Legendaries are in the Safari Zone for now."
Read that again. I walked into the Safari Zone expecting Tauros, and I was staring down a Zacian. While this makes filling the slots efficient, it lacks the thrill of the hunt. There is no dungeon crawling for Heatran; you just throw bait at it. It feels like a clearance sale at a legendary creature dealership. 100% completion took me 65 hours, largely because I spent 20 of those hours resetting the Safari Zone encounter tables.
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS (QoL)
The local technology is vastly improved over the standard FireRed interface. The most critical upgrade? Best QoL: Infinite Repel system. The Auto-Repel prompts saved my sanity while navigating Mt. Moon, which is now infested with rock types from four different continents.
Furthermore, the economy of evolution has been fixed. No more begging strangers for trades. The Trade Stone item is available in Department Stores. Huge W. I evolved my Haunter and Kadabra before the fourth gym. This is how Arceus intended it.
FIELD NOTE: Rumors of "Reusable Pokeballs" were intercepted. In practice, this anomaly appears to conserve resources significantly. If the ball fails, you don't lose it? It feels like cheating, but when you are trying to catch a Beldum with a 3 catch rate, you don't ask questions. You just throw.
THREAT ASSESSMENT
Do not underestimate the hostile entities here. The Gym Leaders have adopted Mega Evolution protocols. I went into the Water Gym expecting a Starmie and got hit by an Ash-Greninja-Z. The difficulty curve is sharp. You cannot simply over-level; you need strategy. The inclusion of Gigantamax forms in a GBA interface is a visual hallucination I wasn't prepared for, but it functions.
THE VERDICT
Pokemon Metal Red is a hoarder's dream and a purist's headache. It crams everything into the Kanto chassis. It's messy, it's crowded, and the Safari Zone is a legendary mosh pit. But can you catch them all? Yes. And for me, that is the only metric that matters.
