MISSION REPORT: POKEMON MEGA SOL X ULTIMATE EDITION

Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region Codename: Mega Sol X Ultimate Edition
Base Sector: FireRed Architecture
Mission Duration: 38 hours, 47 minutes
Pokedex Completion: 73.2% (AND IT'S KILLING ME)

INITIAL DEPLOYMENT

Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. Let me tell you about this region because my hands are still shaking from the caffeine and the frustration.

Dropped into what's essentially a Kanto remix with Gen 1-7 availability. The moment I saw Ultra Beasts listed in the intel briefing, my completion instincts went into overdrive. Seven generations. SEVEN. That's roughly 800+ potential entries if they went all-in. Spoiler: they did NOT go all-in, but we'll get there.

THE LANDSCAPE

Visually, this region operates on upgraded FireRed infrastructure with modernized entity sprites. The character sprite overhaul is immediately noticeable—your protagonist doesn't look like they walked out of 2004 anymore. Alolan Forms roam the grass alongside their Kantonian cousins, which creates this bizarre temporal overlap that my brain simultaneously loves and hates.

The Gym Leader redesigns are... aggressive. New faces, new teams, and they're packing Megas before you've even figured out where to buy Potions. Threat level escalates FAST.

POKEDEX INFRASTRUCTURE ANALYSIS

Here's where I start twitching.

CRITICAL FIELD NOTE: Living Dex is NOT fully possible without cheats. I repeat: INCOMPLETE DEX POTENTIAL DETECTED.

The regional Pokedex includes a healthy spread across seven generations, but distribution is chaotic. Some routes are absolutely STACKED with rare spawns while others give you the same three entities for six hours straight. Alolan Forms appear as static encounters in specific locations—no regional variant toggle, no day/night cycling for forms. You get what you get.

Ultra Beasts exist but their acquisition method is... unclear. I found exactly TWO (Nihilego, Buzzwole) through what appeared to be scripted post-game encounters. The rest? Either I missed triggers or they're simply not implemented. My spreadsheet has seventeen question marks and I am NOT okay.

QUALITY OF LIFE ASSESSMENT

Let's talk infrastructure because this is where Mega Sol X shows its age:

  • Trade Evolutions: NO LINK CABLE ITEM DETECTED. I spent four hours searching every Department Store, every hidden corner, every NPC dialogue tree. If it exists, it's buried deeper than my will to live. Trade evos appear to be... just locked? Gengar remains a dream.
  • Mega Evolution System: Functional. Mega Stones scattered throughout the region, some held by wild entities, others gifted by NPCs. The Mega Ring acquisition happens mid-game, which is reasonable.
  • Z-Moves: Implemented but clunky. Z-Crystals exist, Z-Ring exists, but the activation feels bolted-on rather than integrated.
  • Repel System: Standard. No infinite toggle. Every 250 steps I'm mashing A like a gremlin.
Missable event warning! The Alolan Deity encounters (Tapu quartet) are ONE-SHOT. Save before entering the cave. Save before entering ANY cave, actually. I lost Tapu Lele to a critical hit and had to restart from a backup save. Forty-five minutes. GONE.

SHINY HUNTING VIABILITY

Bad news, hunters. No DexNav. No chain fishing mechanics. No Masuda Method implementation that I could detect. We're working with base FireRed odds here: 1/8192.

I encountered exactly ONE shiny across 38+ hours: a Rattata. Route 1. Hour three. It's like the region was mocking me.

If you're coming here for shiny hunting, recalibrate expectations immediately. This is not the expedition for that.

POST-GAME TERRITORY

Post-game exists but feels truncated. After the Elite Four (which took me eleven attempts because the Champion runs a full Mega team with competitive EVs), you unlock:

  • Sevii Islands access (standard FireRed content)
  • Ultra Beast encounter chain (partially implemented)
  • Rematch system with Gym Leaders (Mega teams, elevated threat level)

No Battle Frontier. No Battle Factory. No competitive facility whatsoever. For a hack advertising "Ultimate Edition," the endgame content is decidedly... finite.

100% completion took me—wait. I CAN'T give you that number because 100% ISN'T ACHIEVABLE. Current ceiling appears to be somewhere around 85-90% Pokedex depending on what's actually coded in versus what's listed.

ANOMALY LOG

Encountered the following glitches during expedition:

  • Text overflow in several Mega Evolution descriptions (visual only, non-breaking)
  • One softlock in Silph Co. when triggering a specific NPC sequence out of order (replicable, save often)
  • Z-Move animation occasionally freezes for 3-4 seconds before resolving
  • Several Pokemon cries don't match their sprites (Alolan Raichu plays Pikachu cry)

Nothing region-breaking, but the polish level suggests this expedition was greenlit before full QA.

FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT

Mega Sol X Ultimate Edition is a paradox. It promises seven generations and delivers maybe five and a half. It advertises Mega Evolution and Z-Moves but implements them with duct tape and hope. The difficulty spike is real—Gym Leaders will END you if you're not grinding—but the completionist infrastructure is fundamentally compromised.

My Pokedex sits at 73.2%. It will likely STAY at 73.2% because the remaining entries either don't exist or are locked behind phantom triggers I cannot locate.

For casual explorers who want a harder Kanto with modern Pokemon sprinkled in? Serviceable. For completionists? This region will give you an ulcer.

I need to lie down. And update my spreadsheet. And maybe cry a little.

— DexHunter Ace, signing off at 73.2% and DEEPLY unsatisfied
