MISSION LOG: THE MALOSSE SECTOR (KANTO VARIANT)
Explorer Level 100 | DexHunter Ace Reporting
Location: Pallet Town (Hostile Territory)
Current Pokedex: 1/386 (Sweating profusely)
I touched down in this modified Kanto sector expecting a standard reconnaissance mission. I was wrong. The local Professor didn't offer me a Bulbasaur. He shoved a dark, fire-breathing canine into my arms—a Malosse (Houndour)—and kicked me out the door. My completionist anxiety spiked immediately. A forced starter usually implies a restricted ecosystem, and for a man who needs that 100% completion stamp like he needs oxygen, that is terrifying.
THE HUNT: "HIDDEN" ANOMALIES
Official intelligence stated that fauna from the Johto and Hoenn sectors (Gen II & III) were present but "hidden." I can confirm this, but the distribution is chaotic. I spent six hours head-butting trees in Viridian Forest looking for a Pineco. 100% completion took me 85 hours, and at least 20 of those were spent scouring obscure patches of grass for species that had no business being there. The biodiversity is increased, which is a dopamine hit, but without a documentation spreadsheet, you are flying blind. I found a Larvitar in a cave where Zubats usually swarm. Pure chaos.
FIELD NOTE: The "Hidden" mechanics are literal. Some species only appear in specific tiles or low encounter rates. Keep your Poke Balls stocked. Running out of Ultra Balls in a challenge hack is a rookie mistake.
THREAT LEVEL: CRITICAL
This isn't a vacation. The local Gym Leaders have ramped up their tactical AI and level caps. I walked into Brock's gym and barely made it out alive. While I appreciate a challenge, fainting means I'm not catching. The increased difficulty forces you to optimize your team, which conflicts with my need to evolve trash mobs for the Pokedex entries. I had to bench my half-evolved Pidgeotto just to survive the second rival battle. It hurts my soul to leave an evolution incomplete, but survival is mandatory.
QUALITY OF LIFE & LOGISTICS
Here is the breakdown of the navigational tools available:
- Evolution Stones: Scarce. I had to scavenge.
- Trade Evolutions: Unclear. I didn't find a Link Stone, which made me nervous about my Gengar slot.
- The Rules: The region imposes "hard rules." This feels less like an open safari and more like a gauntlet.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. There are legendary encounters that do not respawn. I accidentally knocked out a stationary target because I was under-leveled and panicked. That empty slot #144 haunts my dreams. A restart was required. Unacceptable stress levels.
FINAL VERDICT
This region is confused. It wants to be a difficulty hack, but it dangles the carrot of a expanded Pokedex without giving you the tools to track it. Living Dex is possible without cheats... theoretically. But the lack of documentation and the "Beta" atmosphere makes it a gamble for serious collectors. If you are here for the Houndoom starter, proceed. If you are here to fill every box in your PC, bring aspirin.
