MISSION LOG: LURIA REGION EXPEDITION
Explorer: Glitch City Kid | LVL. 93 | Status: Confused but vibing
Timestamp: Day ???, Location: Somewhere in Luria (the map didn't help)
INITIAL CONTACT
Okay so I dropped into Luria expecting absolute chaos based on the briefing talking about Mew, Mewtwo, evil teams, and "hearts of darkness" or whatever 💀 The premise is giving Pokémon 2000 fanfiction energy and honestly? I respect it. We're dealing with a classic "two legendaries, one evil team" setup but the execution is... interesting.
First impressions: this region is trying SO hard to be mysterious. The visual landscape actually looks pretty clean for a FireRed hack - new tiles are doing work, and whoever made this clearly spent time on the aesthetic. It's not giving Vietnam Crystal levels of beautiful disaster, but it's not trying to be. This is more "someone's first serious project" energy.
THE LANDSCAPE
The custom caves and dungeons? Actually kinda fire ngl. The author clearly wanted to make exploration feel fresh, and some of these hidden areas gave me early Snakewood vibes where you're just wandering around like "is this supposed to be here???" The mixed generation soundtracks are a choice - sometimes you're getting gen 3 bangers, sometimes random gen 4 tracks drop in. It's chaotic but not in the fun way, more in the "someone's playlist on shuffle" way.
Pre-battle mugshots exist and they're... there. Some of them go hard, some of them look like they were made in MS Paint at 2am. No shade, we've all been there.
FIELD NOTE: The hidden dungeons are legitimately the best part of this expedition. If you're exploring Luria, actually explore. Don't just speedrun the gyms.
THREAT ASSESSMENT
Difficulty-wise, this is pretty standard FireRed fare. Nothing here made me sweat like Radical Red or even the mid-game of Clover. Hostile entities are manageable, gym leaders use okay teams but nothing that required me to actually think. I was running at 400% speed and still had time to check my phone during battles fr fr.
The evil team showed up talking about ruling the world and I was like "bestie you and every other evil team in existence" 😭 Their whole deal about Mew appearing to pure hearts and Mewtwo to dark hearts is actually a cool concept that I wish got explored more, but in Beta 1 we're not seeing the full picture yet.
ANOMALY REPORT
No major glitches encountered during my run, which is honestly disappointing??? My emulator crashed twice. Loved it. But those crashes seemed random, not reproducible. No Bad Eggs spawned, no MissingNo sightings, no Glitch City portals. For someone who LIVES for broken games, this was almost too stable.
The status says "unknown" completion and honestly that tracks. This feels like a demo or early beta that got released. Story cuts off before anything really pops off with the legendaries. You can feel the potential but we're not there yet.
DIALOGUE & NARRATIVE
The writing is... fine? It's not dialogue is pure brainrot (complimentary) like Vietnam Crystal's legendary "TRASHY STROLL is happening!" - it's more just generic Pokémon plot stuff. Some NPCs say weird things but not weird enough to screenshot and post. I wanted more unhinged energy and got standard RPG fare instead.
The Mew/Mewtwo lore setup is genuinely interesting though. "Hearts pure vs hearts dark" is the kind of edgy 2000s energy I can get behind. Just wish we got to see it pay off.
FINAL ASSESSMENT
Look, Luria isn't bad. It's just... not finished. And for someone who specifically hunts for chaotic trash fires, a competent but incomplete hack is almost worse than a beautiful disaster. Give me Snakewood's zombie apocalypse insanity. Give me Clover's unhinged Fakemon. This is like ordering a spicy meal and getting mild salsa.
Don't play this seriously. Just don't. Not because it's bad, but because there's not enough here to take seriously yet. If you're bored and want to see some custom regions and decent tilework, sure, boot it up. But if you're looking for a complete experience or peak trash entertainment, this ain't it chief.
- Custom tiles and caves: Actually solid work
- Story: Promising setup, no payoff yet
- Difficulty: Mid (derogatory)
- Chaos factor: Disappointingly low
- Completion: Beta means beta
RECOMMENDATION: Wait for a more complete version. The bones are here for something decent, but right now it's like eating a half-baked cookie. Technically edible but why would you.
Glitch City Kid, signing off. Back to hunting for REAL disasters. 🫡
