MISSION REPORT: POKEMON LUNAR VERSION
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Tagral
Base Sector: FireRed Architecture
Mission Duration: 12 hours (INCOMPLETE - See Below)
Status: PRE-ALPHA EXPEDITION
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. Let me just— let me get this out of my system first: this region is unfinished. I knew going in that the intel marked it as "Pre-Alpha," but my completionist brain said "maybe it's secretly done" and my completionist brain was WRONG. The Tagral region cuts off. Just... stops. My Pokedex sits at 47.3% and there is physically no way to push it further. I'm looking at empty slots and I can't fill them. This is my personal nightmare.
THE LANDSCAPE
The Tagral region shows genuine promise in its early routes. Vibrant tilework, custom mapping that doesn't feel like a Kanto reskin. The creator clearly put effort into making this feel like a distinct territory. Hidden Grottoes are implemented — I found three of them in the accessible areas, which had my heart RACING because grotto hunting is my cardio.
But here's where my eye starts twitching: the region simply isn't complete. Routes dead-end into placeholder zones. Towns exist as shells. I walked into what should have been the fourth gym city and found... nothing. NPCs frozen in T-poses of existential dread. The expedition had to be aborted.
REGIONAL PHENOMENA (QoL FEATURES)
Credit where credit is due — the local technology in Tagral is surprisingly advanced for a Pre-Alpha build:
- Physical/Special Split: Fully operational. My Sneasel wept tears of joy.
- Fairy Typing: Integrated into the regional dex. Saw wild Clefairy registering correctly.
- B/W Repel System: Best QoL: Infinite Repel system. Well, not infinite, but the "use another?" prompt is here. Massive time saver.
- EXP on Capture: Confirmed functional. My catching sprees actually contributed to team levels.
- Mega Evolution: Allegedly present but I never obtained stones. Unclear if implemented or just advertised.
FIELD NOTE: Hidden Grottoes refresh on step count, standard mechanics. Found a Bagon in one. Nearly lost my mind.
POKEDEX VIABILITY ASSESSMENT
This is where I have to be brutally honest with my fellow collectors: Living Dex is NOT possible. Not even close. The regional dex exists but cannot be completed because the game literally does not have enough content to access all species. Trade evolutions? Unknown — never found a Link Cable item or alternative method in the accessible areas. Legendaries? Mythicals? The post-game where they'd presumably live doesn't exist yet.
I spent 4 hours cataloging what WAS available. 67 species encountered. 52 captured. The dex interface works fine, the entries populate correctly, but staring at those greyed-out silhouettes knowing they're unreachable? Physical pain.
THREAT LEVEL ANALYSIS
Difficulty was... inconsistent. Early trainers posed minimal threat, then suddenly a random Bug Catcher had a team that wiped my party. Level curves feel untuned, which tracks for Pre-Alpha status. Gym Leaders I encountered (two of them) used semi-competent AI but nothing approaching Radical Red levels of tactical warfare.
ANOMALY LOG (BUGS)
- Text overflow in several NPC dialogues
- One tile in Route 3 equivalent caused a softlock — had to reload
- Pokemon cries occasionally play wrong audio
- Menu lag when opening Pokedex with 40+ entries
Missable event warning! There's a trainer battle in the second town that triggers a Pokemon gift. If you leave the area before talking to the NPC afterward, the gift becomes inaccessible. Save before entering the cave. Or in this case, save before entering ANY building.
POST-GAME EVALUATION
There is no post-game. There is barely a mid-game. The expedition terminated at approximately the 35% story completion mark based on my estimates. No Battle Frontier. No legendary hunts. No endgame facilities. The infrastructure for greatness exists in fragments, but fragments don't fill Pokedex slots.
FINAL EXPEDITION NOTES
Look. I WANT to love Tagral. The bones are good. Hidden Grottoes! Physical/Special split! Fairy types! These are the QoL features that make my completionist heart sing. But I cannot in good conscience recommend this expedition to fellow collectors. Not yet. Maybe not ever, given that the last update was 2017 and the creator appears to have gone dark.
If this ever reaches completion? Revisit immediately. But right now, my Pokedex is stuck at 47.3%, my playtime is 12 hours of beautiful frustration, and I have to file this under "Incomplete Data — Await Further Development."
The empty slots haunt me. They always do.
