INITIAL LANDFALL
Okay. OKAY. Let me just— let me collect myself here because my hands are still shaking and it's not from excitement this time.
The premise hooked me IMMEDIATELY. Shipwrecked on a mystery island? Mysterious locals claiming I'm their "savior"? My brain was already calculating potential legendary encounters and hidden grottos. I packed my metaphorical spreadsheets. I was READY.
I was not ready.
THE LANDSCAPE
The region itself presents a fascinating visual departure from standard Hoenn architecture. Tropical, isolated, with that classic "lost civilization" aesthetic the creator was clearly going for. The tilework shows genuine effort—custom buildings, unique cave formations, environmental storytelling through ruined structures.
But here's where my eye starts twitching: the region is incomplete. Not "sparse." Not "minimalist." Incomplete. I hit invisible walls where maps should connect. Doors that lead to black voids. NPCs frozen mid-sentence because their dialogue trees were never finished.
ANOMALY DETECTED: Multiple "Glitch City" instances encountered after Route 4 equivalent. Recommend extreme caution.
POKEDEX ASSESSMENT
This is where I need to lie down.
Living Dex is NOT possible. I repeat: LIVING DEX IS NOT POSSIBLE IN CURRENT BUILD.
The regional dex appears to pull from Gens 1-3 with some custom encounter tables, but here's the catastrophic problem—evolution items are either missing entirely or locked behind events that don't trigger. I caught a Haunter at hour 6. It's still a Haunter. There is no Link Cable item available in Department Store. There IS no Department Store. The main commercial hub is an empty building with a single NPC who says "Coming soon!"
My spreadsheet is CRYING.
- Starter availability: Standard trio selection (Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip)
- Trade evolutions: BROKEN - no alternative method found
- Version exclusives: Unknown - no documentation exists
- Legendary encounters: Teased but inaccessible
- Mythicals: Don't even ask me. Don't.
QUALITY OF LIFE FEATURES
I'm going to be generous here and say... there aren't any? The base Ruby engine is untouched in terms of QoL. No infinite repel system. No speed-up options. No PC access from menu. We're running 2003 technology in a hack that claims "new features."
The one saving grace: wild encounter rates seem slightly reduced in caves, which saved my sanity during the 2-hour segment where I was trying to find an exit that didn't exist.
POST-GAME CONTENT
Ha. Haha. HAHAHAHA.
There is no post-game because there is barely a game. The story cuts off abruptly after the third gym equivalent. No Battle Frontier. No rematch system. No legendary chase. The "whole new region to explore" promised in the mission brief is approximately 40% implemented.
MISSABLE EVENT WARNING: Actually, everything is missable because nothing is completable. Save often. Save everywhere. Save your sanity.
THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT
Difficulty is... inconsistent? Early trainers use level-appropriate teams, then suddenly a random fisherman has a Level 45 Gyarados when your team averages Level 22. I can't tell if this is intentional difficulty scaling or just unbalanced encounter tables. Given everything else, I'm betting on the latter.
FIELD CONCLUSION
Look. I don't abandon expeditions. I have completed ROMs that crashed every 15 minutes. I have shiny hunted in hacks with broken RNG. I once spent 47 hours in a fan game just to confirm that yes, Mew was actually catchable (it was, slot #151, 0.01% encounter rate, worth it).
But Pokemon Lost Treasure in its current Beta state is not a completable experience. My Pokedex sits at 34.2% with no path forward. The "treasure" this region promises remains buried under unfinished code and missing content.
The bones of something interesting are here. The story concept intrigues me. The custom mapping shows potential. But potential doesn't fill Pokedex slots.
100% completion is currently impossible. Not difficult. Impossible.
I'll be monitoring for updates. If this ever reaches a finished state, I'll return. My spreadsheet will be waiting.
