MISSION REPORT — POKEMON LEGENDS ARCEUS GBA

Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Hisui (GBA Reconstruction — FireRed Base)
Build: Beta 3 — Team Altaria Basculegion Production
Date Filed: Expedition aborted at 4.7 hours. Yes. Aborted.

INITIAL CONTACT — ARRIVAL IN HISUI

[TIMESTAMP: 00:00 — Jubilife Village Approach]

Okay. Okay okay okay. Let me set the stage. I loaded this one up with MAXIMUM anticipation. Legends Arceus on GBA hardware? The Hisui region rebuilt from FireRed tiles? My hands were shaking. I had a fresh spreadsheet open. Tabs for Hisuian forms, tabs for new starters, tabs for craft materials. I was READY.

First impressions: the visual landscape is genuinely ambitious. Someone on Team Altaria clearly put love into the tilework. There are new overworld sprites, reworked palettes that evoke that ancient Sinnoh frontier vibe. The opening area has a different atmosphere than standard Kanto — muted greens, wooden structures, a sense of wilderness. I could feel the intent. I wanted this to work.

But then I started walking. And the cracks didn't just show — they yawned open like the Distortion World.

THE STARTER SITUATION

[TIMESTAMP: 00:15 — Professor's Lab Equivalent]

The briefing said new starters from Gen 2–7, and that checks out. I was offered Cyndaquil, Rowlet, and Oshawott — the Legends Arceus trio. Nice thematic touch. I grabbed Cyndaquil because I'm a completionist, not a monster.

Here's the thing though: the starter selection is about where the "5.2% progress" claim becomes painfully real. Cyndaquil's moveset was barely functional. No Hisuian evolution path was apparent — I couldn't confirm whether Hisuian Typhlosion even exists in the build. The Pokedex registered Cyndaquil, and then I watched the empty slots stretch out ahead of me like a hallway with no doors. How many of those slots are actually populated? I spent an unreasonable amount of time in early routes trying to catalog what's catchable.

FIELD NOTE: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave — actually, save before entering ANYTHING. This build has stability issues. I lost 20 minutes of catching data to a freeze in the second route area. Auto-save does not exist here. Manual save CONSTANTLY.

THE CRAFTING ANOMALY

[TIMESTAMP: 01:30 — Resource Gathering Area]

The official intel mentioned a "New Crafting System" at 0.5% progress, and I need to be brutally honest: I could not locate a functional crafting interface. There are collectible items scattered in the overworld — berries, apricorns, some mineral nodes — but interacting with them either gives a generic item pickup or does nothing. The crafting bench (or whatever the local technology is supposed to be) appears to be a placeholder. I examined every NPC in the starting settlement. Nothing.

0.5% progress is... accurate. Generous, even.

HISUIAN FORMS — THE GHOST IN THE DEX

[TIMESTAMP: 02:45 — Route 2 Equivalent, Tall Grass Survey]

"New Hisuian Forms Added" at 0.2% progress. I encountered exactly ZERO Hisuian form Pokemon in 4.7 hours of obsessive grass-combing. Not one. Standard Kanto-region Pokemon populate the routes — Rattata, Pidgey, the usual suspects, with some Gen 2-4 Pokemon mixed in. The encounter tables feel like a lightly modded FireRed with no real Hisui identity.

My Pokedex completion at expedition's end? 3.8%. And not because I wasn't trying — because there wasn't more TO catch. The regional dex appears partially implemented at best. Several caught Pokemon displayed glitched or placeholder sprites in the summary screen.

THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT

Couldn't properly evaluate. Wild Pokemon levels in early routes were standard (LVL 3-7). Trainer battles exist but were sparse and unremarkable. No gym structure was apparent in the available content. The difficulty isn't "hard" or "easy" — it's incomplete. There isn't enough combat content to form a threat profile.

QoL — THE COMPLETIONIST'S NIGHTMARE

This is where I go full meltdown. Listen. I have standards. I need to know: Can I finish the Dex? Is there post-game? Are trade evolutions handled?

  • Living Dex possibility: Absolutely not determinable. The Dex is a skeleton. Most entries are empty placeholders.
  • Link Cable item / Trade Evolution fix: No evidence of any Link Cable item in any shop. No Department Store exists in the available map. Could not test trade evolutions because I couldn't evolve anything far enough to matter.
  • Shiny Hunting: I encountered no shinies and found no evidence of modified shiny rates, DexNav, or chaining mechanics. Standard 1/8192 odds from the FireRed base, presumably.
  • Post-game: There is no post-game. There is barely a game.
  • Repel system: Stock FireRed. No infinite repel toggle.
  • Running Shoes: Available from the start, at least. One small mercy.
CRITICAL ANOMALY LOG: Two hard freezes during route transitions. One softlock when interacting with a specific NPC near the northern gate. Text boxes occasionally display raw script tags or overflow their containers. Save corruption did NOT occur for me, but I was saving to multiple slots as a precaution. I strongly recommend the same.

THE HARD TRUTH

I wanted to love this expedition. The CONCEPT — Hisui on GBA, the ancient frontier, Hisuian forms in a pixel format — is the kind of thing that makes my completionist brain light up like a Christmas Voltorb. Team Altaria clearly has a vision.

But Beta 3 is not a hack you play. It's a proof of concept you observe. The Hisui region exists as a partial map shell. The crafting system is vapor. The Hisuian forms are listed in the marketing but absent from the tall grass. The Pokedex is a ghost town. I spent 4.7 hours trying to squeeze content out of this build and I hit every wall there was to hit.

100% completion took me 85 hours in Unbound. Here? 100% of the available content took me under 5. And most of that was me refusing to accept there wasn't more hidden somewhere.

There wasn't.

EXPEDITION SUMMARY

  • Dex Completability: Impossible in current build.
  • Shiny Hunting Viability: None. No custom methods detected.
  • Post-Game Content: Nonexistent.
  • Stability: Multiple freezes. Save frequently.
  • QoL Features: Virtually none beyond base FireRed.
  • Ambition Level: Sky-high.
  • Execution Level: Sub-basement.
RECOMMENDATION TO HQ: File this region under SURVEILLANCE. Do NOT deploy completionists here yet. When — and IF — this reaches a 1.0 release with a functional Dex, crafting, and Hisuian forms actually in the wild, I will personally re-deploy. Until then, this is a construction site, not an expedition zone. I'll be checking back. My spreadsheet will be waiting.
