INITIAL CONTACT
Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. Let me tell you about the Zotoxu region and why my completion percentage is giving me actual heart palpitations right now.
Touched down in Pallet Town after receiving the urgent summons. The visual landscape immediately struck me as different—new tileset architecture throughout, clearly custom regional infrastructure. Day/Night cycle operational from the jump. Professor Oak's lab, Gary encounter, standard protocol. Then they hand me a Zotoxu Ticket and suddenly I'm on a boat to an entirely new landmass.
The region itself? Sprawling. Multiple generations of species coexisting. I spotted Sinnoh natives alongside Unova specimens in the wild grass. My Pokedex started SCREAMING at me with new entries. This should be paradise.
It is not paradise.
THE POKEDEX SITUATION (CRITICAL)
Here's where I need to be brutally honest with HQ: this is a Beta 1 release. I cannot confirm whether a Living Dex is possible without cheats because I genuinely don't know where this region ENDS. The mission briefing mentioned "uncle Nacho" waiting for me, and I found him, but the storyline cuts off abruptly after approximately 4-5 badge equivalents worth of content.
MISSABLE EVENT WARNING! Save before entering the cave. Actually, save before entering ANYTHING. I encountered three separate points where progression locked unexpectedly. One involved a door that wouldn't trigger its script. Had to reload a save from 40 minutes prior. My completion spreadsheet wept.
Multi-gen Pokemon availability is genuinely exciting—I caught a Shinx before the second gym equivalent. But without knowing the full regional dex scope, I can't calculate true completion metrics. This is AGONY for someone like me.
QUALITY OF LIFE ASSESSMENT
Let me break down the QoL features I could verify:
- Day/Night System: Functional. Affects encounter tables. Good.
- Pokemon Anime Voices: Present on select species. Pikachu said "Pika" at me and I almost cried. Novel regional phenomenon.
- Trade Evolutions: UNCONFIRMED. I caught a Haunter and couldn't find any Link Cable item or alternative method. No Link Cable item available in Department Store that I could locate. This is a potential Living Dex BLOCKER and I am stressed about it.
- Repel System: Standard. No infinite toggle detected.
- Shiny Hunting: Base Ruby odds as far as I can tell. No enhanced methods. No DexNav. No chaining mechanics. Shiny hunters, temper expectations.
THREAT LEVEL & REGIONAL STABILITY
Hostile entity difficulty felt moderate—nothing that required excessive grinding, but trainer AI occasionally surprised me with decent coverage moves. The real threat isn't the trainers. The real threat is the anomalies.
I documented at least four progression-blocking glitches during my expedition:
- Script failure at Route 3 equivalent (door wouldn't open)
- NPC clipping through walls in second major city
- Battle freeze against one specific trainer class (had to soft reset)
- Map transition that dropped me into void space once
The soundtrack work is genuinely impressive—I recognized tracks from multiple gaming franchises repurposed here. Whoever handled the audio infrastructure put in WORK. But pretty music doesn't fill empty Pokedex slots.
POST-GAME ASSESSMENT
There is no post-game. There is barely a mid-game. This is a beta, and it shows. No Battle Frontier. No legendary hunts that I could access. No endgame content to chase.
For context: 100% completion took me 85 hours in Unbound. Here? I hit a wall at under 13 hours with no clear path forward. My spreadsheet has more question marks than data points.
FINAL FIELD NOTES
NOTE: This region shows POTENTIAL. The foundation—new map architecture, multi-gen integration, custom audio work—suggests an ambitious project. But as a completionist, I cannot recommend deploying here until further development stabilizes the experience. My Pokedex sits at 34.2% and I physically cannot push it higher without cheats or waiting for future builds.
The Zotoxu region is a construction site. Interesting scaffolding. Some rooms are beautifully furnished. But half the building doesn't have floors yet, and I keep falling through them.
I'll be monitoring this one for updates. When—IF—this reaches full release status, I'll redeploy immediately. Until then, my Living Dex dreams remain on hold.
Explorer DexHunter Ace, signing off.
