LOG ENTRY: 03:42 AM // REGION: IRON // SLEEP: DEPRIVED
My eyes are burning. I haven't blinked in forty-five minutes because I was terrified I’d miss a frame of animation on one of these 25 undocumented biological anomalies (read: Fakemon). The Iron Region is a strange beast. Headquarters listed this as a standard Emerald simulation, but the local fauna suggests a significant genetic divergence.
I landed with one goal: A complete Living Dex. No gaps. No excuses.
THE ANOMALIES (FAKEMON REPORT)
The local ecosystem has been invaded by 25 new species. For a casual tourist, this is "fun." For a Level 100 Explorer like me, it is a logistical nightmare. These creatures don't have standard National Dex IDs. I had to manually update my database.
- Visual Fidelity: The landscape rendering is sharper than the standard Hoenn sector. The creator, theironhide, has patched the visual cortex of this world. It's vibrant, almost distracting when you're trying to scan for hidden items.
- The Hunt: Tracking down these new species requires patience. Their spawn rates are inconsistent. I spent six hours in a single patch of grass just to verify if the encounter table was broken or if I was just unlucky. It was the latter.
FIELD NOTE: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave to the north. I encountered a static encounter with one of the new species, and the catch rate was abysmal. If you knock it out, it's gone. Resetting the timeline is your only option.
QUALITY OF LIFE & MECHANICS
I judge a region by its tools. Can I catch them all without begging a stranger for a trade? The infrastructure here is a mixed bag, likely due to the Beta 2.1 status of the simulation.
However, I can confirm a massive victory for solo operatives: Living Dex is possible without cheats. The local trade authorities have adjusted evolution parameters. No Link Cables required for the standard trade evolutions, they simply evolve by level or stone in this build. This saved me hours of menu navigation.
The difficulty? It's not Kaizo-level hostility, but the Gym Leaders aren't rolling over. They have adjusted rosters to include the new species, which throws off standard type-matchup predictions. I walked into the third Gym expecting a breeze and got walloped by a creature I'd never seen before.
THE VERDICT
Is it polished? No. It's a Beta. There are glitches in the matrix—tiles that shouldn't be walked on, text boxes that overflow. But the thrill of the hunt is there. 100% completion took me 85 hours, mostly because I refused to leave the starting route until I had a Shiny variant of the starter Fakemon. (Do not recommend unless you are medically insane).
This isn't the definitive Emerald experience, but for a collector who needs to see species #387-B, it's a necessary expedition.
