INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths, Ace. Let me tell you about Hyetology. I went in with my spreadsheet ready, my completion checklist primed, and my soul prepared for another 80+ hour grind. What I got was... different. This region runs on Emerald bones despite HQ marking it FireRed, which threw my initial equipment calibration off. The local cartographers have completely redrawn the world map—nothing familiar here. Fresh territory. My hands were SHAKING.
But here's where my eye started twitching: Beta 1.2. March 2018. That timestamp haunts me. No updates in years. You know what that means for a completionist? UNCERTAINTY. The worst possible status condition.
POKEDEX VIABILITY REPORT
Let me be brutally honest with my fellow collectors: Living Dex is NOT possible in current build. The regional Pokedex appears truncated—whether by design or beta limitations, I couldn't confirm. Several evolutionary lines are simply... absent. Missing. Like someone ripped pages out of my precious index.
MISSABLE EVENT WARNING! Multiple story triggers appear to be one-time occurrences. Save states are your ONLY protection here. The region's scripting is experimental, and I encountered at least three points where wrong dialogue choices locked content.
No Link Cable item available in any Department Store I found. No alternative evolution methods for trade-locked species. This is a critical failure for completionists. My spreadsheet is BLEEDING red cells.
QUALITY OF LIFE PHENOMENA
The local technology here is... primitive. No infinite Repel system. No quick Pokemon switching. No EV/IV visibility tools. We're talking bare-bones FireRed-era infrastructure with a fresh coat of regional paint. For someone who's been spoiled by modern QoL standards, this felt like exploring with one arm tied behind my back.
However—and I'm trying to be fair here—the region DOES offer:
- Completely original character roster (Gym Leaders, Rivals, NPCs)
- Fresh event scripting that avoids the standard Pokemon story beats
- References and humor that genuinely made me snort (rare occurrence, ask anyone)
The comedic writing is legitimately sharp. I found myself actually reading dialogue instead of mashing through it. That's... that's not nothing.
POST-GAME ASSESSMENT
There isn't one. Beta 1.2 cuts off before any substantial endgame content materializes. No Battle Frontier. No legendary hunting grounds. No shiny hunting methods worth documenting—standard soft reset protocols only, and with the beta's instability, I wouldn't recommend extended hunting sessions anyway.
For context: 100% completion of available content took me approximately 12 hours. That's including thorough exploration of every accessible route and building. Compare that to my usual 85-hour expeditions in complete regions, and you'll understand my... frustration.
ANOMALY LOG
Encountered several glitch phenomena:
- Text overflow in certain NPC dialogues (non-critical)
- One tile in Route 3 equivalent caused brief movement lock (reproducible)
- Save corruption risk if saving during specific cutscene (CRITICAL - always save BEFORE story events)
Nothing that created full Glitch City scenarios, but enough instability to keep me paranoid throughout the expedition.
THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT
Difficulty felt moderate—hostile entities weren't employing advanced competitive tactics, but level scaling was inconsistent. Some early routes featured surprisingly aggressive wild encounters while certain Gym Leaders felt undertuned. Not a challenge run by any means.
FINAL FIELD NOTES
Look. Hyetology has SOUL. The creator clearly loved building this region. The humor lands, the new characters have personality, and the world map redesign shows genuine creativity. But for someone like me—someone who NEEDS that 100% completion screen, who physically cannot rest with empty Pokedex slots—this mission was incomplete by definition.
The 2018 timestamp with no subsequent updates suggests this expedition site has been abandoned. I waited. I searched for update channels. Nothing. The region exists in permanent beta stasis.
If you're a casual explorer looking for a few hours of fresh Pokemon comedy with new faces? Viable expedition. If you're a fellow completionist? This one will leave you with that horrible 47.3% itch that never goes away. Trust me. I'm still scratching.
RECOMMENDATION: Approach as a short-form expedition only. Do NOT begin a Living Dex project here. Your sanity will thank you.
