LOG START: REGION UNIDENTIFIED
Day 1. I’ve dropped into a coordinate simply labeled "Pokemon Hack". No fancy subtitle. No "Dark Rising" or "Light Platinum" flair. Just... Hack. My completionist senses were tingling with apprehension before I even booted the DexNav. The intel claims this is Version Beta 0.5, last updated in the ancient era of May 2020. That’s a red flag the size of a Wailord.
My mission was clear: Catalog the local fauna and assess the ecosystem for a potential Living Dex. But almost immediately, the neurological itch started. The world feels truncated. Like a puzzle with the edges missing.
THE STARTER ANOMALY
I stepped out to choose my partner—usually the most critical decision of a run—and hit a wall. Local laws (read: game mechanics) have Disabled Pokemon Starters Choosing. I didn't get to agonize over Fire, Water, or Grass. The choice was made for me. For a control freak who resets for correct Natures, this is a nightmare scenario. It forces you into a specific playstyle, which I suppose is a "feature," but it feels like I've been handcuffed to a specific rail.
VISUALS AND VIBES
The visual landscape of this region is vibrant, I'll give it that. The architect (AimayBee) has imported new tilesets that make the environment pop more than the standard Kanto drabness. However, pretty trees don't fill a Pokedex. I found myself wandering through new maps that felt... empty. There's a distinct lack of polish in the encounter tables.
FIELD NOTE: The "New Region" is a labyrinth of potential, but mostly dead ends. I found myself walking into walls that looked like paths. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Not because the event is tricky, but because the collision data is unstable and you might phase through the floor into the void.
THE CATCHABILITY INDEX: CRITICAL FAILURE
Here is the breakdown that keeps me awake at night. This is a Beta 0.5. Do you know what that means? It means the number 493 (or 898, or 1025) is a lie. You cannot catch them all. You can barely catch some of them.
I spent hours scouring the tall grass, checking my spreadsheets. I wanted to tell you that a Living Dex is possible without cheats. I wanted to scream it from the mountaintops. But I can't. The data stream cuts off. The Pokedex is a graveyard of empty slots that will never be filled because the creator seemingly vanished in 2020. My completion percentage is stuck at a pathetic number, and I can't grind my way out of it.
FINAL ANALYSIS
100% completion took me 3 hours. And that's being generous. The content runs dry faster than a Magikarp out of water. There is no post-game. There is no Battle Frontier. There is only the void of the "To Be Continued" screen.
Unless you are a historian documenting the ruins of unfinished ROM hacks, stay away. There is no dopamine hit here for the collector. Just the cold, hard reality of an abandoned timeline.
