Some challenge

This is, on paper, a fairly standard 386+ hack of Ruby. Mechanics are updated to gen 7 standards where possible, including physical+special split and new moves. It also features all evolutionary relatives of the first 386 mons, a dab of rebalancing, some added challenge, and a bunch of small changes to spice things up.

OFFICIAL INTEL

  • Individual Pokemon have palette variations, similar to the Stadium games, dependent on their personality value.
  • Team Aqua and Team Magma swap places for the Mt. Chimney section of the game, so you don’t have to fight two Fire specialists in a row.
  • Surf encounters have been removed. There is still too much water, but now you can cross it in relative peace.
  • Regi doors are open at the start of the game, so you can use them before the very end of the game.
  • Some new areas have been added and old ones extended for the Kanto and Johto legendaries. A couple more have been added for convenience or other reasons.
  • Refreshment-based healing items are easier to obtain in bulk, but cannot be used in battle to compensate.

MISSION LOG: ENTRY 001 - LANDFALL IN HOENN SECTOR

My boots hit the soil of Littleroot, and my Pokedex immediately began screaming. This isn't the standard-issue Ruby simulation. The atmospheric readings are... different. Pokemon Good Ruby isn't just a clever name; it's a promise. I've spent the last week combing through the tall grass, and my completion percentage is sitting at a crisp 100%. 100% completion took me 42 hours. Not a minute wasted.

THE VISUAL ANOMALY

First thing I noticed: The local fauna exhibits strange pigmentation variances. Similar to the phenomena observed in the N64 Stadium simulations, Pokemon here have slight color shifts based on their personality values. I spent three hours staring at a Zigzagoon trying to determine if it was slightly more magenta than the last one. It wasn't a Shiny, just... unique. For a collector, this is both a blessing and a curse. My boxes look like a gradient chart. It's beautiful.

CATCHABILITY & LOGISTICS

Here is the intel you actually care about: Living Dex is possible without cheats. The local government has opened the borders. All 386 species from the first three generations are present. I found the Regi-trio doors were unsealed right from the start of the journey. No Braille decoding required at the endgame—you can snag a Regirock to crush Watson if you're sadistic enough.

NOTE: The aquatic routes are eerily silent. Surf encounters have been purged. I repeat: No Tentacools while surfing. You can cross the ocean without stopping every 3 tiles. This is the single greatest navigational upgrade in Hoenn history.

QUALITY OF LIFE UPGRADES

The technology in this region is optimized for the obsessive traveler.

  • Dive Module: Dive is no longer an HM taking up a move slot. It's a key item. Finally.
  • Genetics Lab: There is a specialist in Lavaridge who can alter a Pokemon's nature. No more tossing perfectly good Ralts into the bin because they were 'Adamant'.
  • Trade Logistics: Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W. I evolved my Alakazam before the fourth badge.

THREAT LEVEL: MODERATE

Do not expect to cheese the Gym Leaders with potion spam. The local healing beverages (Soda Pop, Lemonade) are abundant but cannot be used during combat. You actually have to strategize. Also, Intelligence reports a shift in hostile team movements: Team Aqua and Magma have swapped operational zones around Mt. Chimney. It prevents the fatigue of fighting Fire-types back-to-back. Smart.

FINAL OBSERVATIONS

I found new caverns expanding the map for the Kanto and Johto legendaries. They aren't just handed to you; you have to trek for them. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. I nearly knocked out a Lugia because I was distracted by its slightly-off-blue palette hue. Do not make my mistake.
