LOG ENTRY: LANDFALL IN GOLD ISLANDS
Timestamp: Day 1, 0600 Hours
Location: Mango Town Docks
Current Dex Count: 0/???
My hands are shaking. Not from the sea travel from Johto, but from the lack of data. The Gold Islands region is a biological black box. HQ intel suggested a standard 8-badge league structure, but local cartography only indicates six Gym Leaders. Six? That leaves two empty slots on my Trainer Card. It’s asymmetrical. It’s disturbing. But I’m here for one reason: to verify the existence of the entity known as "Pokemon Zaru" and log it into the database.
THE ECOSYSTEM: TROPICAL CHAOS
The visual data suggests a heavy modification of the FireRed engine, but the local flora resembles the Hoenn sector. It’s a mashup. Navigating the Inner Forest requires patience; the encounter rates are erratic. I’ve spotted species from multiple generations co-existing in zones that make no geographical sense. For a casual tourist, it's variety. For a taxonomist like me? It's a headache.
FIELD NOTE: The "Inner Forest" is a navigation hazard. The Elite Four member stationed there acts as a tutorial gatekeeper, but the dialogue triggers are sensitive. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave near the forest edge; the script for the "evil team" encounter can be volatile.
THE ZARU ANOMALY & CATCHABILITY
Local rumors (the "Official Intel") pointed to a creature called "Pokemon Zaru". I spent three hours in the tall grass expecting a Fakemon or a glitch entity. Turns out, it's a regional curiosity—possibly a translation error for a specific Mythical or a custom event Pokemon. Finding it was the highlight of the expedition.
However, the completionist in me is screaming. The region feels condensed. With only 6 badges, the pacing is accelerated. You hit power spikes faster, but the journey feels truncated. I didn't find a functioning Day/Night cycle, which messes with my Umbreon evolution schedules.
THE NUMBERS (BECAUSE THEY MATTER)
I clocked the main campaign rapidly. 100% completion took me 12 hours. That is dangerously short for a region claiming to hold a "hidden world". The post-game is virtually non-existent compared to the sprawling archipelagos of Sevii or Unbound.
- Pokedex Availability: Spotty. You will find holes in the National Dex that simply cannot be filled within these islands.
- QoL Features: Minimal. No Infinite Repel prompts. Box management is archaic.
- Shiny Hunting: Standard 1/8192 odds. No chaining tools detected. Painful.
FINAL LOG
This isn't a place to settle down and build a competitive team. It's a pit stop. A curiosity. The "Gold Islands" offer a quick dopamine hit of exploration, but don't expect to fill a Living Dex here. Living Dex is possible without cheats? Negative. Too many missing species. Pack your bags for a weekend trip, not a residency.
