LOG ENTRY: THE VOID OF GOD OF ARENA
I packed my bags for Johto. I brought my lucky catching charm. I brought 999 Ultra Balls. I arrived in the region of God of Arena and found... nothing. No Route 1. No Pidgeys. No tall grass. My heart rate spiked to 180 BPM immediately. Where is the hunt? Where is the thrill of the shake?
This isn't a region; it's a tactical simulation chamber. A gladiator pit built on the bones of the Crystal engine. I had to recalibrate my entire neurological reward system. I don't sleep until the job is done, but how do you complete a Pokedex when there is no nature left to conquer?
THE ECONOMY OF SOULS
Here is the situation: You don't catch Pokémon. You buy them. It feels dirty. It feels efficient. I walked into the Pokémon Center—which is basically the only building that matters—and saw them listed like groceries. Need a Tyranitar? That'll be cash. Need a Mewtwo? Put it on the tab.
I confirmed that a Living Dex is possible without cheats, provided you grind enough currency to buy out the entire stock. But the emotional connection? It's different. I didn't track that Heracross through a honey tree; I bought him on discount. It turns the collection aspect into a capitalist nightmare. I love it and I hate it. My spreadsheet is confused.
COMBAT PROTOCOLS & QOL ANOMALIES
The local technology is terrifyingly advanced for a Game Boy Color interface. The natives engage in 3v3 combat—strict Wi-Fi battle rules. No items from the bag. You can't potion spam your way to victory here. Hostile entities proved extremely dangerous. The AI scales with your rank. You win, you rank up. You lose, you get demoted. It's an endless ladder.
However, I found the holy grail of convenience. Open the menu. Click TM/HM. ALL 250 MOVES ARE THERE. Unlimited use. No hunting for the Earthquake TM in a dark cave. You want Fire Blast? You got it. This allows for instant team rebuilding between rounds. I usually praise the Best QoL: Infinite Repel system in other regions, but here? The QoL king is this TM menu. It saved me hours of backtracking.
THE ENDLESS GRIND
There is no story. No Team Rocket. Just the Arena. Usually, I say Post-game is massive. Battle Frontier included. But here? The whole region is a Battle Frontier. It’s all post-game. It’s all grind. If you aren't optimizing EVs (which, by the way, is streamlined here), you will be crushed by the Rank S gatekeepers.
NOTE: Do not get attached to your rank. It fluctuates like the stock market. One bad crit and you're back in the minor leagues.
100% completion took me 85 hours. Not because the map is big, but because grinding the cash for a full Living Dex while maintaining a high rank requires the patience of a Monk with an Excel spreadsheet. This is a simulation for Strategists, not Explorers. I'm leaving now. I need to go find a Pidgey in a bush just to feel something again.
