ARRIVAL IN SUNRAY TOWN: 0800 HOURS
I loaded this region onto my Flashcart, hoping for a nice tropical vacation. The map said "Sunray Town." I packed my shorts. I packed my sunscreen. I arrived, and my arthritis immediately flared up. The whole place is frozen solid. Apparently, a legendary entity known as Regice is throwing a tantrum, and the local temperature has dropped faster than the value of a Pokedollar.
I met a Professor Kirk. Claims to be Birch's brother. He seems competent enough, though he handed me a Pokedex and shoved me out the door into the blizzard without so much as a scarf. At least the Running Shoes work indoors here. Finally, a hack that respects the classics while letting an old man move at a decent pace.
THE FROZEN LANDSCAPE
The intel promised "new graphics," and for the most part, the visual feed is acceptable. It's a lot of snow tiles. If you like white and light blue, you're in for a treat. The sprite work is faithful to Gen 3 style, which I appreciate. None of that 3D nonsense or over-saturated palettes that look like a candy store exploded. It looks like the GameBoy Advance games I remember, just... colder.
However, the terrain is treacherous. I encountered several mapping anomalies—trees you can walk through, ledges that don't quite align. It feels like the construction crew quit halfway through the job.
COMBAT AND THREAT ASSESSMENT
The local hostile team goes by "Team Glacier." Not very original, is it? Back in Kanto, we had the Mafia. Simple. Effective. These hooligans are freezing the region, and it's up to me—a LVL 81 veteran in the body of a ten-year-old—to stop them. The combat loop is standard FireRed protocol. No gimmicks, just good Pokemon.
I scanned the area for those abominations the kids call "Fairies." Negative. I checked for "Mega Stones." Negative. What is a 'Mega' evolution? Sounds broken. I'm glad to report this region relies on good old-fashioned strategy, not temporary power-ups that look like a Digimon rejection pile.
FIELD ANOMALIES AND STABILITY
WARNING: The mission log identifies this sector as "Pre Beta 0.5" despite other reports claiming it is "Completed." Proceed with caution.
This is where the expedition gets rocky. While the story seems to have a beginning, middle, and end, the polish is missing. I encountered text boxes that trailed off into gibberish and events that triggered out of order. It feels just like 1999 (but faster), specifically the part where we played glitchy cartridges we bought at a flea market.
MISSION DEBRIEF
Pokemon Glacier is a relic. It reminds me of the early days of hacking—ambitious, a bit messy, but with a heart of gold (or ice, in this case). It doesn't hold your hand, but it might trip you up with a bug or two. If you want a polished, modern experience, look elsewhere. If you want to see what the frontier looked like ten years ago, strap on your snowshoes.
