MISSION REPORT: POKEMON FIRERED & LEAFGREEN +
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Enhanced Kanto Sector
Mission Duration: 47 hours, 23 minutes
Pokedex Completion: 246/246 (100%)
INITIAL CONTACT
I'm shaking. My hands are literally shaking as I type this. Do you understand what this region represents? TWO VERSIONS. ONE SAVEFILE. I toggled between FireRed and LeafGreen like flipping a light switch and caught BOTH Sandshrew AND Vulpix without begging some stranger on the internet for a trade. The Key System menu sits there like a gift from Arceus himself.
Living Dex is possible without cheats. 246 creatures. Every single Kanto species. Ninety percent of Johto. Five Hoenn specimens. All legal. All valid. All MINE.
QUALITY OF LIFE PHENOMENA
The local technology in this enhanced Kanto is decades ahead of the original expedition. I documented everything:
- Cut trees STAY CUT. Permanently. I wept.
- Boulder puzzles remember their solutions. No more resetting Victory Road.
- Best QoL: Infinite Repel system. The BW-style prompt asking if I want to use another Repel? Chef's kiss. My sanity remained intact during Safari Zone grinding.
- Infinite TM uses. I taught Earthquake to seventeen different Pokemon just because I COULD.
- Two new bag pockets. I held one stack of EVERY ITEM SIMULTANEOUSLY.
- Running indoors with auto-run toggle. My B button finally got a vacation.
- Faster Surf speed by holding B. Faster bike gear. This region respects my TIME.
FIELD NOTE: EV-reducing berries have been ported from the Hoenn archives. Found them growing near specific NPCs. Competitive training is actually viable here.
THE HUNT: POKEDEX COMPLETION
Here's where I lost sleep. Multiple nights. Worth it.
The version toggle mechanic is GENIUS. I'd catch Ekans in FireRed mode, save, toggle to LeafGreen, walk twenty steps, and there's Sandshrew. Same route. Different version. One playthrough. My spreadsheet barely needed updating because the system just... works.
All four event islands are accessible through gameplay accomplishments. GAMEPLAY. Not mystery gifts from 2004. Not Action Replay. Faraway Island? Southern Island? Ported from Emerald and FUNCTIONAL. I stood on Faraway Island catching Mew and thought about every childhood dream that Nintendo denied me.
CRITICAL INTEL: The Roaming Beasts still have the vanilla IV bug. Intentional design choice for legality purposes. Entei, Raikou, and Suicune will have garbage IVs. Purists will appreciate this. Perfectionists will need therapy.
POST-GAME ASSESSMENT
Post-game is massive. After the Elite Four, the Sevii Islands opened up with actual substance. The Faraway and Southern Islands from Emerald add genuine exploration content. Event legendaries aren't locked behind decade-old distributions.
Challenge Mode toggle exists for masochists. Easy Mode for those who just want to complete the Dex without the stress. Nuzlocke ruleset BUILT IN. IV and EV calculation modifiers for the obsessive (hello, that's me).
100% completion took me 47 hours. Could've been faster, but I was savoring every QoL feature like fine wine.
ANOMALY REPORT
Minimal glitches detected. The creator included all Revision 1 bug fixes plus additional tile errors and localization oversights that the original developers never addressed. Summary screen displays met locations for ANY Gen 3 Pokemon, including Orre transfers. The attention to detail here is... it's making me emotional.
Overworld ability effects ported from Emerald. Synchronize works for nature hunting. Flame Body for eggs. Day Care improvements with Everstone nature passing.
THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT
Base difficulty mirrors vanilla Kanto. Challenge Mode adds teeth. Easy Mode removes frustration. The Key System lets YOU decide. This is how difficulty options should work.
FINAL EXPEDITION NOTES
This is what the original FireRed and LeafGreen should have been. Every trade evolution? Handled. Every version exclusive? Accessible. Every QoL improvement from future generations? Retrofitted with surgical precision.
I came to Kanto expecting a nostalgia trip. I left with a complete Living Dex and zero regrets. My spreadsheet is satisfied. My Pokedex is full. My soul is at peace.
Until the next expedition.
