LOG ENTRY: THE FRICTIONLESS NIGHTMARE
Location: Route 1 (Currently sliding past it at 40mph)
Current Pokedex: 14/151
Sanity Level: Critical
I have arrived in the region of Fire Red Slide. The local laws of physics have been repealed. Friction is a distant memory. This isn't just a region; it is one giant, continuous Ice Path. For a completionist like me, this is a distinct psychological torture test. I see a Pidgey. I want the Pidgey. But to get the Pidgey, I must calculate a vector trajectory bouncing off three trees and a ledge.
THE PHYSICS ENGINE: LOCAL ANOMALY
The entire map uses the "Ice Tile" mechanics from the standard timeline. You step, you slide. You do not stop until you hit a solid object. This turns basic traversal into a high-stakes puzzle.
- The Good: It forces you to rethink every single movement. It is a puzzle game wearing the skin of a Pokemon RPG.
- The Bad: Overshooting the Poke Mart by four tiles and sliding all the way back to Pallet Town.
FIELD NOTE: Do not attempt to run. Walking is sliding. Running is... faster sliding into a wall.
CATCHABILITY & THE HUNT
My neurological need to fill the Dex is screaming. The encounters seem to be standard Kanto variations, which means Living Dex is possible without cheats, provided you have the patience of a saint to navigate the tall grass. Every encounter is a punishment for failing a movement puzzle. If you slide into the grass, you are battling. If you didn't mean to slide into the grass, too bad.
I spent four hours just trying to align myself with the entrance to Viridian Forest. The wild encounters interrupt the sliding puzzles, which breaks my concentration. I am sweating. I need a Repel. I need all the Repels.
THREAT ASSESSMENT
The Gym Leaders aren't the threat. The floor is the threat. I found myself soft-locked in a corner near Mt. Moon because I couldn't generate the momentum to slide back out. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Seriously, save every time you are on solid ground (if you can find it). One wrong slide and you might be resetting to your last save file.
MISSION DEBRIEF
This is not a game for the casual tourist. This is for the Explorer who looked at the Ice Path in Mahogany Gym and said, "Yes, I want this to be my entire life." It is maddening. It is precise. It is a completionist's friction-free purgatory.
I finally beat the Elite Four, but the mental toll was heavy. 100% completion took me 85 hours. roughly 70 of those hours were spent sliding past the door I intended to enter.
