I just returned from the region known locally as Pokemon Quetzal (or Emerald Multiplayer to the uninitiated), and my completionist synapses are firing so hard I can smell burnt toast. This isn't just Hoenn; it's a crowded, chaotic, beautiful mess where the barriers between realities have shattered.
THE REALITY WARPING PROTOCOL (CHEATS)
The briefing mentioned "How To Use Cheats," and I initially scoffed. A true Hunter earns their keep! But then I accessed the local pause menu. It’s not a glitch; it’s a feature. Local technology allows you to warp reality directly from the Options menu.
- Access Point: Press Start > Options > Cheats.
- Capabilities: You can spawn items, rare candies, and even force encounters.
For a purist, this is heresy. For a man who has spent 12 years looking for a Feebas? It's tempting. Very tempting. I tested the "Unlock All Fly Points" command. Instant teleportation. While I prefer the thrill of the hunt, having a built-in debug mode is a godsend for fixing anomalies or replacing lost save data. Living Dex is possible without cheats, absolutely, but if you need a Master Ball because a Shiny Beldum is about to Struggle itself to death? I won't judge you. I might judge you a little.
THE HUNT: VISIBLE SHINIES
I need a moment. The shinies... they're visible. In the overworld. Do you understand what this does to a man like me? I spent 4 hours just walking in circles in Petalburg Woods because I refused to leave until I saw a sparkle. Shiny hunting method: DexNav chaining works perfectly, but seeing the palette swap walking around in the grass before the encounter starts? It’s the greatest dopamine hit since the invention of the Oval Charm.
CATCHABILITY & ROSTER
The biodiversity here is staggering. We aren't just talking Gen 3. We are talking Gen 9 entities roaming the Hoenn wildlands. Regional variants from Alola and Galar are present. I saw a Hisuian Zorua near Rustboro. My spreadsheet is weeping. The sheer volume of slots to fill is massive, but the tools are there.
FIELD NOTE: You can play AS a Pokemon. I navigated the region as a Swampert. It doesn't help the Pokedex count, but it was a spiritual experience.
VERDICT
This is a completionist's playground and a purist's nightmare, all wrapped in a multiplayer shell. The ability to trade with yourself (or others in the same lobby) renders the trade-evolution problem obsolete. 100% completion took me 85 hours, and that was with me getting distracted by the follower mechanics. If you want a vanilla experience, look elsewhere. If you want to catch literally everything while your friend runs around as a shiny Bidoof, this is the peak.
