MISSION REPORT: POKEMON EDICION ZEI

Explorer: DexHunter Ace — LVL. 100
Region Codename: Edicion ZEI
Base Sector: Ruby Architecture (GBA)
Language: Spanish
Mission Status: Aborted at approximately 37.4% Pokedex completion. I need to talk about this.

INITIAL DEPLOYMENT — 00:00:00

Dropped into ZEI with my usual checklist open: Link Cable item locations, trade evolution workarounds, post-game legendary availability, Hidden Grotto equivalents. Standard operating procedure. Within the first ten minutes I realized this region was going to fight me on every single one of those categories.

The overworld? Fully customized sprites. Credit where it's due — the local population looks distinct from any Hoenn settler I've catalogued. New characters, new overworlds, new visual identity. The landscape has a scrappy, hand-built quality to it. Someone poured real hours into making this place feel different. I respect that. I logged approximately 14 hours exploring, and the sprite work held up across every route I surveyed.

THE POKECENTERS ARE GONE — 01:15:00

Okay. Let me explain this to you slowly because I had to process it slowly myself.

There are no functional PokeCenters.

You walk into a building that looks like a PokeCenter. Your brain says "heal". Your muscle memory is already pressing A. And instead, you get ambushed by trainers. Every. Single. House. The creator borrowed this mechanic from the Rocket's Revenge sector with permission, and listen — I understand the design philosophy. Survival. Tension. Resource management. But from a completionist's perspective? This is a logistics nightmare. I'm trying to chain encounters, build a Living Dex, and I can't even top off my team's HP without burning through my Potion reserves like they're water.

FIELD WARNING: Do NOT enter houses expecting healing. Every building is a potential gauntlet. Stock healing items obsessively. I am not exaggerating. Your Pokedex progress depends on your supply chain.

For shiny hunters? Forget extended sessions. Your team degrades after every few encounters with no free healing, which means you're constantly retreating to buy supplies. The economy of the region does NOT support this playstyle. I timed it: roughly 40% of my session time was spent managing inventory instead of catching. That's... that's not okay.

REGIONAL FAUNA — DEX ASSESSMENT — 04:30:00

The Alola forms are here. Confirmed. You can obtain regional variants of specific species, and they're integrated into the wild encounter tables rather than locked behind events. That's a plus. My spreadsheet lit up when I found an Alolan Vulpix in a route I wasn't expecting it.

But here's the problem — and this is the part that kept me up at 3 AM staring at my tracker — I could not confirm whether a full Living Dex is actually possible. The game's status is listed as "unknown" completion, and that ambiguity haunts me. I encountered dead-end scripts. NPCs that don't trigger. Routes that feel like they lead somewhere but just... don't. Is this a beta? It feels like a beta. The official intel says last updated November 2020, and the region has that unmistakable "abandoned mid-construction" energy in its later zones.

Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Actually, save before entering anything. I hit at least two anomalies where entering a specific building softlocked my progress. One of them ate 45 minutes of unsaved encounter data. I physically stood up from my desk.

DAY/NIGHT CYCLE — 06:00:00

The Day/Night system is functional. Time-based encounter shifts exist. This is relevant for completionists because certain species only appear at night, and the cycle seems to run on the internal clock properly. I logged different encounter tables across three time periods on Route 2 alone. Good. This is the kind of regional phenomenon I can work with.

However — and I need to be precise here — the Day/Night implementation is cosmetic-functional at best. It changes palettes and some encounters but doesn't integrate deeply with any quest system or evolution mechanic that I could find. No time-based evolutions confirmed. No Espeon/Umbreon friendship-clock interaction detected. It's surface-level.

QoL ASSESSMENT — THE HARD TRUTH — 09:00:00

Let me run through my standard QoL checklist:

  • Link Cable item / trade evolution patch: NOT FOUND. I could not locate any alternative evolution method for trade-locked species. No Link Cable item in any shop. No NPC trade workaround. This alone caps the Pokedex at something less than 100%, and that makes my left eye twitch.
  • Infinite Repel system: Absent. Standard Ruby repel mechanics. Manual reapplication every 250 steps. In 2020. Come on.
  • Shiny hunting method: Base Ruby RNG. No DexNav. No chain mechanics. No boosted odds that I could detect. Soft-reset hunting only, which with the no-PokeCenter situation is genuinely punishing.
  • Post-game content: I... don't think there IS a post-game. The main storyline tapers off in a way that suggests content was planned but never finished. No Battle Frontier. No rematch system detected. No legendary quest chain. The region just kind of... ends.
  • Missable Pokemon: At least three species appeared to be one-time encounters with no confirmation of respawn. I saved before each one out of sheer paranoia, but the game gives you ZERO warning.
NOTE: If you are a completionist entering this region, bring your own infrastructure. The local technology does not support your mission objectives. There is no safety net here.

ANOMALY LOG — 11:30:00

Encountered the following anomalies during my expedition:

  • Softlock in an unnamed building on the third town. Entering from the left tile freezes all input. Reproducible.
  • One NPC's dialogue references an item that doesn't appear to exist in the game's data. Ghost item. Phantom quest.
  • Tile errors on Route 4 — walkable water, unwalkable grass. Minor but disorienting when you're trying to systematically sweep an area for encounters.
  • Script failure on what appears to be a story-critical event near the 5th badge. I had to find an alternate path that may or may not have been intentional.

None of these are region-destroying, but stacked together they paint a picture of a sector that was under active construction when development halted.

FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT — 14:12:00

Here's where I land on this, and it hurts to say because I can see the ambition. The custom sprites are genuinely good. The no-PokeCenter mechanic is bold. The Alola forms integration shows creativity. The Day/Night cycle works. Someone cared about this region.

But I'm DexHunter Ace, and my mission is 100% completion. Living Dex is NOT possible without cheats. That's my inversion of the phrase I most want to say. Trade evolutions appear locked. The post-game is either nonexistent or inaccessible. Shiny hunting is base-rate with no QoL support. And the anomalies — the softlocks, the dead scripts — mean that even a casual playthrough carries risk.

I logged approximately 14 hours before I determined that continuing would not yield a complete Pokedex under any legitimate methodology. My completion percentage flatlined at 37.4%. That's not a wall I hit — it's a wall the region hit. Development stopped, and so did my progress.

If this ever gets a full release — a 1.0 with trade evo patches, a real post-game, and those softlocks squashed — I'll be the first one back. I'll bring a bigger spreadsheet. But right now? Right now the Pokedex has empty slots I can't fill, and you know what that does to me.
