MISSION REPORT: DRAGONSTONE 2 EXPEDITION
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Unknown (Post-Kohto Sector)
Status: BETA TERRITORY ā PROCEED WITH CAUTION
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. Okay okay okay. Deep breaths. I went into Dragonstone 2 expecting a continuation of the first expedition's Pokedex progress and instead I found myself in a completely undocumented region with zero carryover data. My completion percentage? Reset to 0%. Do you understand what that does to a person? DO YOU?
But I pushed through. 23 hours of field work. And here's what I found.
POKEDEX AVAILABILITY REPORT
This is where things get... complicated. The regional dex appears to pull from multiple generations, which initially had me vibrating with excitement. However ā and this is critical ā Living Dex is NOT possible without cheats. At least not in this beta build. Several evolutionary lines are straight-up missing from wild encounter tables, and I could not locate any alternative acquisition methods.
ANOMALY DETECTED: Trade evolution species appear in trainer battles but have no documented wild spawn points or NPC trade options. No Link Cable item located in Department Store or anywhere else. This is a problem.
I checked every shop. Every hidden corner. Every suspicious-looking NPC. The infrastructure for trade evolution alternatives simply doesn't exist yet. My spreadsheet is crying.
QOL INFRASTRUCTURE
The region's technology is... primitive. No Infinite Repel system. No DexNav equivalent. No chain breeding facilities that I could locate. This is an Emerald-base expedition, so I expected some limitations, but modern ROM regions have spoiled me.
- Repel System: Manual reapplication required. My finger hurts.
- Shiny Hunting Method: Soft reset only. No boosted odds detected.
- PC Box System: Standard. Functional but not enhanced.
- Running Shoes: Available indoors. Small mercy.
THREAT LEVEL ASSESSMENT
The official intel wasn't lying ā hostile entities in this region hit HARD. Gym Leaders deploy full competitive movesets with held items. Random cave encounters jumped me with Pokemon 8-10 levels above my team average. I lost count of how many times I blacked out in the second dungeon alone.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Actually, save before entering ANY structure. The beta stability is questionable and I experienced two soft-locks near progression triggers.
Threat Level: HIGH. But honestly? The difficulty spike felt artificial in places ā more "enemy levels inflated" than "strategic challenge designed." Radical Red this is not.
POST-GAME TERRITORY
Here's where my manic energy deflated completely. Post-game is... minimal? After the main storyline concluded, I found exactly one additional area with a handful of legendary encounters. No Battle Frontier included. No extended Pokedex quest. No secret dungeons.
For a completionist, this is devastating. I clocked out at 23 hours with approximately 67% regional dex completion and NO clear path to 100%. Several Pokedex slots remain permanently empty in my save file, taunting me.
ANOMALIES & GLITCH CITIES
Beta territory means anomalies. I documented the following:
- Text overflow in several NPC dialogues (minor)
- One tile in Route 4 equivalent that triggers walking-in-place loop (save corruption risk)
- Music track fails to load in third gym, leaving eerie silence
- Two soft-locks near story triggers (mentioned above)
The new soundtrack mentioned in official intel? Partially implemented. Some tracks slap. Others are missing entirely, defaulting to vanilla Emerald audio.
FIELD VERDICT
Look. I wanted to love this. The storyline continuation from Dragonstone 1 has genuine hooks ā the mystery about the protagonist's identity kept me pushing forward despite the frustrations. The region layout shows ambition. Some of the custom trainer battles genuinely challenged my team composition skills.
But as a completionist? As someone who NEEDS that 100% or I physically cannot move on with my life? This expedition broke me. 67% completion. 23 hours. And a Pokedex with holes I cannot fill.
FINAL NOTE: This is BETA territory. The foundation exists for something worthwhile. But until trade evolution alternatives are implemented, until the post-game receives substantial expansion, until those soft-lock anomalies are patched ā I cannot recommend this for fellow completionists. We deserve better. Our spreadsheets deserve better.
Returning to base for recovery. My Pokedex completion percentage haunts my dreams.
ā DexHunter Ace, signing off
