📡 MISSION REPORT: POKEMON DNA (WENYAR REGION)

Filed by: Glitch City Kid | Explorer LVL. 100 | Status: Still vibrating from whatever just happened

Expedition Date: Current Cycle | Emulator: MyBoy @ 400% speed because I am physically incapable of patience

🌲 INITIAL DEPLOYMENT — THE FOREST ANOMALY

[LOG 00:00 — Unknown Forest, Pre-Wenyar]

Okay so. You boot this thing up and immediately the hack hits you with a CINEMATIC. You're Red. You're in a forest. Your rival Blue is there being his whole insufferable self. And then MEW shows up like some interdimensional Uber driver and yeets you into an entirely new region called Wenyar. You wake up and Kanto is GONE. No explanation beyond "lol dream sequence." The vibes were giving Pokemon Snakewood prologue energy — just pure "what is happening and why should I trust any of this" — and honestly? I was already hooked. 🎣

The opening dialogue is... look, it's not Vietnam Crystal levels of brainrot, but it's got that charming ESL energy where sentences technically make sense but your brain has to tilt 15 degrees to process them. Dialogue is pure brainrot (complimentary). Some lines feel like they were written, translated to Spanish, back to English, and then vibes-checked by someone who has never vibes-checked anything. I ate it up like a gas station burrito at 3am.

⚠️ FIELD NOTE: The intro sequence is unskippable and moderately long. At 400% speed it's tolerable. At normal speed you WILL astral project out of boredom. Bring snacks.

🗺️ THE LANDSCAPE — WENYAR REGION

[LOG 02:30 — Wenyar, First Town]

The Wenyar region is... okay, let me be real with the Archives. The terrain is a mixed bag shaped like a question mark. Some areas are genuinely well-constructed — there are custom tiles, the forest zones have a layered canopy vibe, and a few towns actually look like someone cared about them with their whole chest. But then you walk three steps north and you're in a route that looks like it was built during a speedrun of RPG Maker tutorials. Tile errors pop up like whack-a-moles. I walked through a tree. Not around it. THROUGH it. The tree did not consent. 🌳💀

Some maps are cramped in a way that makes navigating feel like parallel parking a Wailord. Others are sprawling and empty, like the devs allocated space for content that hasn't arrived yet. It's giving "ambitious blueprint, beta execution," which tracks because this IS Beta 1.

Gen 4 creatures roam the tall grass alongside the usual Kanto-Hoenn suspects, and seeing Shinx pop up in a Ruby-base hack is always a little surreal — like spotting a time traveler at a medieval fair. The regional creature distribution felt random in places. I found a Ralts, a Geodude, and what I THINK was a Budew all on the same route, which has the energy of a potluck where everyone brought pasta salad.

⚠️ FIELD NOTE: Walkable tile errors exist in multiple areas. You can clip through certain walls and trees. Document these anomalies for science (or exploitation, I don't judge).

⚔️ THREAT ASSESSMENT — COMBAT & PROGRESSION

[LOG 08:00 — Route 3-ish, Wenyar]

Threat level in the early zones is... mild? The hostile creatures aren't particularly aggressive in their level scaling. Trainers exist but they're not pulling any Radical Red shenanigans where a Bug Catcher has a perfect-IV Scizor. It's a pretty standard Ruby-difficulty stroll through the region, which for a beta is totally acceptable. Nobody's here for a challenge run. We're here for the EXPERIENCE. 🧪

The rival encounters with Blue are serviceable. He shows up, talks smack with the confidence of someone who didn't just get interdimensionally kidnapped, and then battles you with a team that's... fine. It's fine. The battles function. Moves work. Nothing exploded. For this genre of hack, "nothing exploded" is genuinely high praise.

I will say the level curve gets a little wonky in the mid-section. There's a stretch where wild encounters jump like 4-5 levels between routes with no warning, which gave me flashbacks to Snakewood's infamous difficulty spikes. Except here it feels less intentional and more like someone forgot to adjust the encounter tables on one route. Classic beta behavior. 📊

📖 THE NARRATIVE — STORY & LORE

[LOG 14:00 — Wenyar City (I think? Names blur together)]

The story WANTS to be epic. You can feel it. The setup — Red getting transported to a new region by Mew, the mystery of why you're here, the rival dynamic carrying over from Kanto — has genuine potential. There are seeds of something cool buried in the dialogue about legends and Wenyar's history. But in Beta 1, those seeds are still very much underground. 🌱

The narrative kinda just... stops. You're progressing through gyms, there are hints about a larger plot involving legendary creatures, and then beta wall. Content ends. The story doesn't so much conclude as it simply ceases to exist, like a sentence that just

See what I did there? That's what it feels like.

Some NPCs have genuinely funny dialogue though. One dude in a Pokémon Center told me something that roughly translated to "my Pokémon is strong but my heart is weak" and I felt that in my SOUL. Unintentional poetry. This is why I do this job. ✨

⚠️ FIELD NOTE: Story content appears to end abruptly. Do not go in expecting a full narrative arc. Manage your expectations like you'd manage a team of six Magikarps — with patience and delusion.

🐛 ANOMALY LOG — BUGS, GLITCHES & CURSED PHENOMENA

[LOG 18:00 — The Glitch Zone]

This game is absolutely unhinged 💀 — but not always in the fun way. Look, I LIVE for anomalies. I named my firstborn after MissingNo (I didn't, but I would). But the bugs here are less "charming chaos" and more "this clearly needed more testing."

Documented anomalies:

  • 🔴 Tile passability errors — Walking through walls and trees in multiple locations. Free exploration I guess?? Open world Pokemon DNA edition 😭
  • 🔴 Text overflow — Some dialogue boxes clip or display garbled text. One NPC's text just... ran off the screen like it had somewhere to be.
  • 🟡 Script triggers misfiring — An event near the second gym triggered twice, replaying a cutscene. Déjà vu is a feature now.
  • 🟡 Sprite inconsistencies — Some overworld sprites don't match their battle sprites. Identity crisis representation. 🪞
  • 🟢 No hard crashes — I'll give credit here. Despite everything, my emulator held strong. No crashes, no Bad Eggs, no save corruption. For a beta, that's actually impressive. I'm almost disappointed tbh.

I didn't encounter a MissingNo and honestly? The run could have used one for emotional support.

🎵 AMBIENT CONDITIONS — SOUND & ATMOSPHERE

[LOG 20:00 — Somewhere with music playing]

The soundtrack is mostly stock Ruby/Emerald fare with a few custom tracks thrown in. Some of the custom music actually slaps? There's a route theme that had no business going that hard for a beta hack. I was literally bopping at 400% speed which means I was bopping at 400% intensity. But other tracks are clearly placeholder or just... the default Ruby gym theme for the 47th time. It's fine. Music is never why I'm here. I'm here for the CHAOS. 🎪

🧬 FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT

[LOG ~22:00 — Beta Wall, End of Current Content]

Pokemon DNA is a project with ambition leaking out of every pixel. The Wenyar region concept is solid, the Gen 4 integration into a Ruby base works surprisingly well as a technical achievement, and the opening hook of getting Mew-yeeted into a new dimension is genuinely compelling. The creators clearly have a vision.

But — and this is a Snorlax-sized but — this is a Beta 1, and it FEELS like a Beta 1. The map design is inconsistent, the story cuts off before it can deliver on its promises, bugs are frequent enough to be distracting (even for ME, and my tolerance for jank is clinically concerning), and the overall polish level sits somewhere between "rough draft" and "Google Doc shared at 2am with the comment 'thoughts?'"

Don't play this seriously. Just don't. If you go in expecting a finished experience, you'll be frustrated. If you go in like I did — phone in hand, speed cranked, zero expectations, purely vibing with the weird energy of an early build — you'll find some charm in the cracks. It's not Snakewood-level unhinged. It's not Clover-level funny. It's not Vietnam Crystal-level transcendent. But it's a beta with potential, and I've seen worse betas become bangers.

I'll keep this region on my radar. If Numus and Matias keep building, Wenyar could become something worth a full expedition. For now, it's a scouting mission at best. 🔭

📋 RECOMMENDATION TO ARCHIVES: Flag for re-expedition upon next major update. Current build is exploratory-only. Not recommended for casual travelers or anyone who values their free time. Recommended for fellow trash connoisseurs and beta testers with a high pain threshold. We are a rare and beautiful breed. 🫡
