MISSION LOG: SECTOR 777 // DESERT REGION
Timestamp: 0400 Hours. Sleep Deprived.
Location: Unknown Sand Dune.
Pokedex Count: PATHETIC.
I arrived in the Desert Version expecting a sprawling oasis of catchable critters. My DexNav was calibrated, my Pokeballs were polished, and I had my spreadsheet ready for a 493-slot fill. Instead, I found myself in a fever dream. The intel was conflictingโsome sources claimed "Completed," others screamed "Alpha 0.2." As a Level 100 Explorer, I don't deal in ambiguity. I deal in data. And the data here is... fragmented.
THE LANDSCAPE: VISUALS & VIBES
I'll give the architect, 777ID777, credit where it's due: the visual overhaul is distinct. We aren't in Kanto anymore. The tilesets have been swapped for arid, sandy environments that actually make you feel the heat. Itโs a nice change of pace from the lush greens of Hoenn, but pretty pixels don't fill a Pokedex.
THE HUNT: ANOMALIES DETECTED
Here is where my eye starts twitching. I play for the 100%. I need to know that a Living Dex is possible without cheats. In this sector? It's a gamble. The "Alpha" designation is a heavy anchor around my neck. I encountered invisible walls and script errors that suggest the ecosystem isn't fully formed yet. I spent three hours looking for a wildly distributed Pidgey just to confirm the encounter tables weren't broken.
FIELD WARNING: The stability of this reality is questionable. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. I walked into a cavern and the exit warp didn't trigger. Had to reset. Lost a shiny Geodude. I screamed.
MECHANICS & QOL
I checked the local marts immediately. I look for the staples. Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W.โwait, scratch that. That's what I wanted to write. In reality, the item infrastructure is basic. It feels like vanilla FireRed with a coat of paint and a new narrative script that cuts off just when things get interesting. There is no physical/special split, no fairy type, just raw, old-school mechanics in a new sandbox.
VERDICT: THE COMPLETIONIST'S NIGHTMARE
For a casual tourist, the new story might be a fun distraction. For someone like me? It's torture. I can't chain encounters. I can't confirm the post-game exists because the main game feels like it's held together by duct tape and dreams. 100% completion took me 85 hours in Unbound; here, I ran out of content before I finished my first coffee.
Until the "Alpha" tag is removed and the borders are fully opened, this is a No-Fly Zone for serious hunters.
