MISSION LOG: POKEMON CAWPS
Date: [REDACTED]
Location: Hoenn Sector (Variant: "Police State")
Operative: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
I landed in this distorted version of Hoenn expecting the usual routine: eight badges, Elite Four, fill the Dex, go home. Negative. The local government has abolished the League. There are no Gym Leaders. Instead, I’ve been conscripted into the local Police Force. My mission objective shifted from "become Champion" to "enforce the law." While this is a fascinating deviation from standard protocol, it wreaks havoc on my completionist anxiety. How do I measure progress without badges? By the body count? By the number of arrests?
THE CATCHABILITY INDEX
Let's get to the numbers because that's what matters. You start with two starter Pokemon. One chosen, one issued. That is an immediate +2 to the Pokedex count within the first 10 minutes. Efficiency is high.
However, the local ecosystem is volatile. This isn't a standard "Catch 'em All" safari. The narrative is linear, heavily scripted, and pushes you from crime scene to crime scene. I found myself sweating because I couldn't freely backtrack to Route 101 to check for rare spawns until later. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave or engaging in major plot raids. If you knock out a unique encounter during a bust, it might be gone for good. My pulse is racing just typing that.
ANOMALIES & QOL FEATURES
The local technology is a mixed bag, but there is one feature that saved this expedition from a failing grade. Standard trade evolutions have been re-engineered. You don't need a trade partner. Trade evos are handled via Moon Stones available in the Department Store. Huge W. Eevee also reacts to Sun and Moon stones for Espeon and Umbreon. This allows for a Living Dex is possible without cheats—at least for the species native to this modified Hoenn.
Another anomaly: The "Grinding Cave." Headquarters briefed me on this. It's a designated zone for rapid leveling. As someone who needs their team at Level 100 for absolutely no reason other than satisfaction, this is a godsend. No more beating up Level 30 Tentacools until my eyes bleed.
THE ENVIRONMENT & THREAT LEVEL
The dialogue here is... aggressive. The locals are hostile, rude, and frankly, insane. It breaks immersion if you're looking for a Nintendo-approved adventure, but if you treat it as a gritty parallel dimension, it works. The threat level is inconsistent. Some "criminals" use competitive strats, while others are fodder. The buff to Rock Smash (now a 60-75 power move) is a legitimate strategic upgrade, making an HM slave actually viable in combat.
FINAL ANALYSIS
This is not a game for the 100% Pokedex purist who wants a 40-hour post-game collecting Mythicals. It is a narrative sprint. 100% completion took me 25 hours, which is short, but the density of the "Police" missions keeps the dopamine flowing. There is no Battle Frontier here, just the cold, hard streets.
FIELD NOTE: Do not expect a traditional Post-Game. Once the crime is stopped, the file is closed. Collect what you can, while you can.
