MISSION REPORT: CAMP BAKER EXPEDITION
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Camp Baker
Base Sector: FireRed Protocol
Mission Duration: 4 hours 23 minutes
Completion Status: 12.7% (EXPEDITION ABORTED)
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. OKAY. Let me just— let me breathe for a second. I went into Camp Baker expecting a quirky summer camp adventure with a full regional Pokedex to obsess over. What I got was a beta-state anomaly zone that made my completion-tracking spreadsheet cry actual tears.
The premise is wild. No gyms. ZERO. Instead, we've got "Area Directors" which— look, I respect the innovation. Different structure, different rules, I can adapt. But here's where my eye started twitching: there is no clear Pokedex framework. I spent 47 minutes trying to figure out if a Living Dex is even POSSIBLE in this region and I still don't have an answer.
THE LANDSCAPE
Visually? The new tileset slaps. Rosewood Town has this cozy, off-the-grid vibe. The Day/Night system functions correctly, and the seasonal shifts are a nice atmospheric touch. I watched the environment cycle through what appeared to be spring and summer variants during my expedition.
But pretty trees don't fill Pokedex slots, people.
CATCHABILITY ANALYSIS
This is where I started hyperventilating.
CRITICAL WARNING: No observable trade evolution workaround detected. No Link Cable item spotted in any shop inventory. Repeat: NO LINK CABLE ITEM AVAILABLE IN DEPARTMENT STORE. This is NOT a W.
The wild encounter tables seem limited to early-route commons. I documented approximately 15 unique species in my 4+ hours, which is... concerning for a region that claims to be a full adventure. No sign of legendary availability. No mythical distribution method. No post-game content accessible because— and this is the kicker— the game appears to end abruptly.
QoL FEATURES (OR LACK THEREOF)
- No Infinite Repel system detected
- No DexNav or equivalent hunting tool
- No visible shiny rate modification
- Running Shoes: Present (thank Arceus)
- Day/Night: Functional
- Seasons: Cosmetic only, no gameplay impact observed
Best QoL feature I found? The new overworld sprites are clean. That's... that's it. That's the list.
ANOMALY REPORT
Multiple progression soft-locks reported in the field. One NPC near the camp entrance would freeze all input for approximately 3 seconds before resuming. A door in the eastern sector led to a black void before the game auto-corrected. These aren't game-breaking Glitch Cities, but they're red flags for a completionist run.
Missable event warning! Save before entering ANY building. The beta state means anything could corrupt your progress.
THE VERDICT
Listen. I wanted to love Camp Baker. The concept of escaping to a mysterious camp, ditching traditional gym structures, sneaking out at midnight with your best friend— that's PEAK Pokemon adventure energy. The creator clearly has vision.
But as a completionist? As someone who needs that 100% or I physically cannot rest? This region is not ready for expedition. There's no confirmation that a Living Dex is possible without cheats. There's no post-game. There's barely a mid-game. The "Beta v1.1" label is doing a LOT of heavy lifting here.
I'll be monitoring this region for future updates. If Joexv patches in proper evolution methods and expands the Pokedex infrastructure, I'll be the first one back. But right now? My spreadsheet remains tragically empty, and my completion percentage sits at a soul-crushing 12.7%.
Camp Baker has potential. But potential doesn't fill a Pokedex.
