MISSION REPORT: POKEMON BURNING RUBY
Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region: Hoenn (Alternate Timeline)
Status: BETA EXPEDITION - PROCEED WITH CAUTION
INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Okay. OKAY. Deep breaths. I went into this region expecting a standard Hoenn remix and what I got was... complicated. My completion instincts were SCREAMING the entire time. The Hoenn landmass has been completely restructured—new routes, new caves, new everything. My muscle memory from 47 previous Hoenn expeditions? Useless.
Current Pokedex status after 23 hours of field work: 67.4% regional completion. And that number is making my eye twitch because I genuinely cannot tell if the remaining 32.6% is accessible or locked behind beta walls.
THE LANDSCAPE
The visual landscape maintains that classic GBA Hoenn aesthetic, but the cartographers went absolutely feral with the route redesigns. New caves I've never mapped. Wild encounter tables completely reshuffled. I found a Larvitar on Route 102. A LARVITAR. In HOENN. My spreadsheet had a meltdown.
New sprites are scattered throughout—some regional entities got visual overhauls. Nothing groundbreaking, but enough to make me double-take when a familiar silhouette looked slightly off.
FIELD NOTE: The new evolution methods mentioned in the briefing are REAL. I witnessed local technology that bypasses traditional trade requirements. Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W.
POKEDEX VIABILITY ASSESSMENT
This is where my obsessive nature becomes a liability. The hack promises new evolution methods and new wild distributions, and it delivers... partially. I was able to evolve several trade-locked species using alternative items. Machoke? Handled. Graveler? Done. My blood pressure dropped significantly.
HOWEVER—and this is a big however—the beta status creates uncertainty. Some encounter slots feel incomplete. I found areas where the grass rustled but nothing appeared. Empty data. Ghost encounters. My Pokedex has question marks where Pokemon should be, and I cannot confirm if this is intentional mystery or unfinished implementation.
MISSABLE EVENT WARNING! Save before entering the cave. Actually, save before entering ANY cave in this region. The new layouts have some one-way drops I wasn't prepared for, and I lost 40 minutes of progress learning that lesson.
QUALITY OF LIFE PHENOMENA
The QoL features present are appreciated but inconsistent:
- Trade evolution alternatives: CONFIRMED FUNCTIONAL
- New Legendary encounters: Located one, but capture mechanics felt standard
- Repel system: Standard implementation, no infinite toggle detected
- Running Shoes: Available from start (thank the Distortion World)
What's missing hurts my completionist soul. No visible IV/EV checker. No DexNav equivalent. Shiny hunting in this region would be pure RNG torture—no chaining methods, no increased odds that I could identify. If you're here for shiny hunting, bring patience measured in geological time.
THREAT LEVEL ANALYSIS
Hostile entities ranged from "standard Hoenn difficulty" to "wait, why does this random trainer have a fully evolved pseudo-legendary?" The difficulty curve felt uneven—possibly another beta artifact. Gym Leaders used competent teams but nothing that required extensive counter-strategizing.
I'd classify overall threat level as MODERATE. Experienced Explorers will handle it. Newcomers might struggle in specific caves where the new layouts trap you with higher-level encounters.
POST-GAME INVESTIGATION
Here's where I have to be honest: I couldn't fully assess post-game content. The beta status means I'm uncertain what's implemented versus what's planned. I reached the Champion, secured victory, and then... limited options. No Battle Frontier detected. No extensive post-game legendary chain. Some areas remained blocked.
Living Dex viability: UNCONFIRMED. I cannot in good conscience say a Living Dex is possible without cheats because I cannot verify all species are obtainable. This keeps me up at night. Literally.
ANOMALIES AND CONCERNS
Beta status means bugs. I encountered:
- Text overflow in some NPC dialogues
- One softlock near a redesigned cave exit (save often!)
- Occasional sprite layering issues
Nothing catastrophic, but enough to remind me this region is still under construction.
FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT
Pokemon Burning Ruby represents an ambitious Hoenn reconstruction that shows genuine promise but suffers from its incomplete state. For completionists like myself, the uncertainty is agonizing. I NEED to know if 100% is achievable. I NEED confirmation that every Pokedex slot can be filled legitimately. The beta label means I can't provide that confirmation.
The trade evolution QoL alone earns respect. The new regional layout provides fresh exploration for Hoenn veterans. But until this reaches a complete state, my Pokedex anxiety will remain unresolved.
Total expedition time: 23 hours. Completion percentage: 67.4% (estimated ceiling unknown). Recommend revisiting when the region stabilizes.
PERSONAL NOTE: I will be monitoring this region's development. The foundation is solid. I just need someone to tell me the remaining 32.6% EXISTS.
