LOG ENTRY: THE KANTO ANOMALY
Day 1. 0800 Hours. I touched down in Pallet Town. Again. I’ve walked these dirt paths a thousand times, but my Pokedex is currently reading 0/386 and my hands are shaking. The mission parameters for Pokemon Bubble Blue were vague: "Wild Pokemon changed" and "All Legendaries." That’s bait. That is direct bait for a hunter like me.
I chose Squirtle. The intelligence briefing suggested it. I didn't question it. Efficiency is key. My goal? A complete Living Dex before I collapse from exhaustion. Let's see if this region respects my time or if I'm going to have to file a complaint with the universe.
THE CATCHABILITY REPORT
The local fauna has been scrambled. This isn't your grandfather's Route 1. I encountered species that have no business being this close to Pallet Town. It's chaotic, but for a completionist, it's a buffet. However, I noticed a disturbing lack of documentation on encounter tables. I had to manually track patches of grass for hours.
- Availability: High. The "changed wild Pokemon" protocol means you aren't stuck catching Pidgeys for three hours.
- The Legendary Situation: The intel promised "All Legendaries." I found them. They are scattered, hidden in static encounters that feel... forced.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Some of these legendary triggers are one-time deals. If you knock out Mewtwo here, he doesn't come back. I learned that the hard way and had to reload a save from 4 hours prior.
QUALITY OF LIFE (OR LACK THEREOF)
Here is where the sweat starts dripping. I am looking for the QoL. I am begging for the QoL. Where is my physical/special split? Where is my infinite repel?
This region operates on legacy hardware. It feels like vanilla FireRed with a fresh coat of paint and a shuffled deck of cards. I spent way too much time navigating menus that should have been streamlined a decade ago. And don't get me started on trade evolutions. I was stuck with a Haunter for 40 levels praying for a Link Stone that never manifested in the Marts. I eventually found a workaround, but it nearly cost me my sanity.
100% completion took me 38 hours. It was a sprint. A messy, unpolished sprint.
THE VERDICT: FOR THE OBSESSIVE ONLY
Is a Living Dex is possible without cheats? Yes, technically. The modified wild data allows for a sweep of the National Dex if you are persistent enough to check every single tile of grass. But the experience lacks the smooth dopamine hit of modern rom-hacks like Unbound. It’s a raw, jagged hunt.
The "Bubble Blue" aspect seems to be purely cosmetic—a shift in the visual spectrum of the title screen and some UI elements. It’s not a deep mechanical overhaul. It’s a remix.
If you need to see the number 386 next to your save file, this is a functional sandbox. If you want a curated museum experience, look elsewhere. I’m packing up my gear. There’s a rumor of a shiny Celebi in the next sector.
