MISSION LOG: THE "BETA" NIGHTMARE
I arrived in the Blu Acqua region with my standard equipment: 500 Ultra Balls, a spreadsheet for EV tracking, and a heart rate monitor. The initial intelligence report dated this region's last update to June 2019. My palms started sweating immediately. In the world of cartography, a "Beta 1" tag that hasn't been updated in years usually means one thing: Ghost Town.
I ignored the warning signs. I needed to know if the local Pokedex was viable. The mission briefing stated: "All pokemon obtainable!" I felt a rush of dopamine. But then, the fine print: "(Excluding legendaries for now)".
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT DOES TO A COMPLETIONIST? It's like itching a scratch that never goes away. I can't sleep knowing Articuno is technically coded but geographically non-existent.
THE THREAT LEVEL
The local hostile entities are not messing around. The difficulty curve here is less of a curve and more of a vertical cliff face right at the start. I walked into the first route expecting a casual stroll and got walloped by advanced tactics.
FIELD NOTE: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Or in this case, save before leaving your house. The early game trainers have inflated levels and better movesets than standard Kanto grunts.
The region has implemented the Physical/Special Split technology, which is the only thing keeping me sane during combat. It allows for actual strategy rather than just spamming Hyper Beam. However, the partial de-capitalisation of text is jarring—it's like the world is half-shouting at me.
THE HUNT (OR LACK THEREOF)
I spent hours scouring the grass. I usually judge a region by its resource availability. In a top-tier zone, the Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W. Here? I'm struggling to find basic necessities to complete the roster. The map feels like a standard Kanto remix with the difficulty dial cranked up, but without the Quality of Life features that make the grind rewarding.
I kept telling myself that maybe, just maybe, the Living Dex is possible without cheats. But it's a lie. Without the Legendaries, the Living Dex is a Broken Dex. A Hollow Dex. I stared at the empty slots for hours.
MISSION ABORTED
I clocked out early. Usually, 100% completion took me 85 hours. Here, I pulled the plug at hour 12. The region is unfinished, the updates have ceased, and the promise of "All Pokemon" is unfulfilled. Until the Creator returns to finish the architecture, this is a no-fly zone for serious collectors.
