LOG ENTRY: THE COLRESS SIMULATION
Location: Unknown Digital Space, Unova Tech
Time: 03:42 AM (Sleep is for casuals)
Dr. Colress invited me to a "Battle Experiment." He thinks he's testing my combat efficiency. He's wrong. He's locked me in a room with Generations 1 through 7 and expected me not to hyperventilate. The Pokedex counter sits at 0. Zero. It mocks me. I have brought my spreadsheet. I have brought my stylus. I am not leaving until that number hits 807.
THE CATCHING ENVIRONMENT
The layout is structured like an arcade dungeon crawler. You pick a zone, you clear the room, you move on. For a completionist, this is both heaven and hell. The density of species is absurd. I encountered an Alolan Grimer five minutes in. Living Dex is possible without cheats. I repeat: ALL species are obtainable. My dopamine receptors are firing on all cylinders. The fact that I can snag Ultra Beasts in a GBA interface is a technological marvel that nearly made me drop my Game Boy.
FIELD NOTE: Resource management is critical. You cannot simply buy 99 Ultra Balls and spam them. Every throw must be calculated.
ANOMALIES & MECHANICS
This isn't your standard Hoenn jaunt. The region operates on a strict "Soft Level Cap" system. No over-leveling to crush the Gym Leaders—or "Zone Bosses" as they are designated here. You have to actually think. The local technology includes the Gen 7 Battle Engine (Dizzyegg's tech), which means Mega Evolutions are functional and fairy types are present. It's fluid. It's fast.
The best part? The removal of HM slavery. HMs are replaced by key items. No more dragging a level 3 Zigzagoon around just to cut a tree. This allows for optimal team composition at all times.
THE GRIND
I spent 4 hours resetting a single zone just to find a specific Nature-colored stat boost. The game offers an optional Nuzlocke mode with Dupes Clause and Shiny Clause built-in. I turned it on immediately. Why? because if I can't catch it, it's dead to me anyway. But be warned: the puzzles are tricky. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. Or in this case, the next Boss Room. Once you click that door, there is no turning back to heal.
VERDICT
The "Battle Labyrinth" is a misnomer. It is a "Collection Labyrinth." The sheer variety of species packed into this simulation is staggering. I have filled 92% of the Dex so far. 100% completion took me 85 hours. (Projected, based on current velocity). If you have the itch to collect in a high-stakes environment where resources are scarce, this is your drug.
- Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W. (The in-game shop functions similarly, allowing trade evos without friends. I don't have friends anyway; I have Pokemon).
- Visuals: Crisp, updated sprites.
- Threat Level: High. Bosses use competitive strats.
