LOG ENTRY: DAY 01 - VALENCIA ISLAND BEACHHEAD
Touchdown in the Orange Archipelago. My palms are already sweating. The local Pokedex indicates a biodiversity range strictly within the Kanto-Hoenn spectrum (Gen 1-3), but reports of Pinkan Island variants have my completionist cortex firing on all cylinders. A pink Rhyhorn? That is not a Shiny; that is a regional anomaly, and I need it in Box 1, Slot 14.
THE CENSUS: 386 OR BUST?
I have spent 12 hours scanning the tall grass on Route 1 equivalent. Here is the situation: This region operates on a narrative-lock. Because I am forced to pilot the avatar of "Ash Ketchum" (or Misty), the local laws of physics seem to want me to follow a script. This is anxiety-inducing.
However, the biodiversity is... acceptable. You aren't just stuck with Pikachu. I managed to secure a decent roster, but for a true collector, the lack of modern habitat tracking is painful. Living Dex is possible without cheats, but it requires patience that frankly, I usually reserve for soft-resetting Starter Pokemon. You will be hunting blindly without a DexNav. It's old-school tracking. Brutal.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS & ANOMALIES
The topography has been completely terraformed. This does not resemble the Hoenn region base at all, which is a relief. However, the technology level here is archaic. We are talking pre-Physical/Special split era. If you send a Gyarados into battle, its Water moves are Special. It hurts to watch. It hurts my soul.
FIELD NOTE: The "Crystal Onix" entity is present. Do not faint it. It is a unique specimen. If you crit this thing, reset your device immediately.
THE ANIME PROTOCOLS
The region forces you through the events of the Orange Islands anime and the Pokemon 2000 movie. This is where things get stressful. Legendaries are tied to scripted events.
WARNING: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave on Shamouti Island. If you mess up the encounter with the Legendary Birds or Lugia during the movie script, they might be gone forever. My save file backup count is currently at 43.
THE VERDICT
I clocked out. 100% completion took me 35 hours. It is a short expedition compared to modern standards. The lack of post-game facilities like a Battle Frontier is a letdown for the competitive itch, but for a "Living Dex" of anime-exclusive variants? It is a unique trophy case.
The region is a time capsule. No fancy QoL. No Infinite Repels. Just you, a bag full of Poke Balls, and the fear of missing a Pink Butterfree.
