MISSION REPORT: POKEMON ANCIENT

Explorer: DexHunter Ace (LVL. 100)
Region Codename: Ancient
Base Sector: FireRed Architecture
Build Observed: Beta 5
Status Classification: UNKNOWN — and that right there already has my eye twitching.

INITIAL DEPLOYMENT — 00:00:00

Alright. Let me set the scene. I dropped into this region with my usual loadout: spreadsheet open, Pokedex tracker primed, a fresh save file, and enough caffeine to kill a Snorlax. The intel from HQ was thin — dangerously thin. No feature list. No confirmed difficulty tier. No Pokedex scope. The mission tags were a mess — listing Emerald, FireRed, Completed, and NEW RELEASE all at once like someone threw darts at a bulletin board. That's Anomaly #1 right there. The region's own metadata doesn't know what it wants to be.

Field recon from other travelers? Essentially nonexistent. No intercepted comms of any substance. No forum threads breaking down encounter tables. No one arguing about shiny odds in a Discord at 3 AM. For a completionist, that silence is deafening. It means either nobody's gone deep, or there's nothing deep to go into. I had to find out myself.

THE LANDSCAPE

Timestamp: ~02:30:00 into expedition

The visual terrain of this region is... functional. We're working off FireRed architecture, and the creator hasn't done extensive overhauls to the tileset. Some custom mapping exists — a few routes felt like they had their own identity, a cave system or two that didn't scream "Kanto reskin." But honestly? Most of the time I felt like I was walking through a parallel Kanto with different NPCs reading from a different script. Not ugly. Not breathtaking. It's a field. I walked through it.

The region layout is mostly linear. No branching paths that had me pulling up secondary maps. No hidden sectors that required HM puzzles with actual thought behind them. For an Explorer, the terrain doesn't fight back much — and I'm not sure if that's a feature or a warning sign.

HOSTILE ENTITY ASSESSMENT (THREAT LEVEL)

Threat level across this region sits at what I'd classify as Normal-to-Low. Wild encounters didn't push my team. Trainer battles were standard fare — no EV-trained opposition, no competitive movesets on Gym Leaders, no AI that switches on prediction. I was auto-piloting through most hostile engagements by the midpoint. If you're a Strategist looking for Radical Red-tier punishment, this ain't your expedition.

That said, level curve felt mostly stable. No sudden spike where a random trainer has a fully evolved pseudo-legendary while you're sitting on a team of Route 2 catches. It's smooth. Inoffensive. Forgettable.

POKEDEX VIABILITY — THE REAL MISSION

Timestamp: ~08:00:00 — where things start falling apart for me

Okay. HERE is where my report gets painful to write. The Pokedex situation in this region is severely underdocumented. I could not determine the full scope of available species. There's no in-region Pokedex display that told me "here's your target count." I encountered a mix of Gen I through Gen III species on routes, which tracks for a FireRed base, but the distribution felt random rather than curated. Some routes had interesting encounters — seeing later-gen species pop up in early areas was a nice surprise — but I had zero confirmation of whether a full Living Dex is achievable.

āš ļø CRITICAL FIELD NOTE: I could NOT confirm whether trade evolutions are patched. No Link Cable item was found in any Department Store or shop inventory I checked. No NPC offered item-based trade evolution alternatives. If Gengar, Alakazam, Machamp, and Golem require standard trade protocols with no local workaround, that is a HARD BLOCK for solo completionists. This is unacceptable for any expedition I'd recommend.

I spent an embarrassing amount of time checking shop inventories, talking to every NPC in every building, and combing side areas. No Link Cable item. No evolution merchant. If it exists, it's hidden beyond what Beta 5 exposes. If it doesn't exist, that's a dealbreaker for my people.

REGIONAL TECHNOLOGY & QoL

The local technology in this region is barebones FireRed standard. Here's what I catalogued:

  • Repel System: Vanilla. No auto-repel prompt. No infinite repel system. You're mashing through menus every 200 steps like it's 2004. Best QoL: Infinite Repel system — yeah, that phrase exists in my vocabulary because I've experienced it in better regions. This one doesn't have it.
  • Running Shoes: Present. Indoor running not confirmed to be enabled everywhere.
  • Shiny Hunting Methods: I found no evidence of enhanced shiny hunting mechanics. No DexNav. No chaining system. No Shiny Charm equivalent. You're at base 1/8192 odds, praying to Arceus with every encounter. For a shiny hunter, this region is a desert.
  • Physical/Special Split: Could not confirm implementation. Some moves felt like they were still running off the old type-based split, which would be a significant mechanical limitation for team-building.
  • Reusable TMs: Not observed. Standard single-use TM economy.

No Mega Evolution. No Fairy-type confirmed. No modern battle mechanics that I could verify. This region runs on old-world rules.

POST-GAME TERRITORY

Timestamp: ~14:00:00 — Reached what appears to be the endpoint

This is where "Beta 5" and "Status: Unknown" become very relevant words. The main storyline — such as it is — follows a fairly standard trainer journey template. New region, eight badges, league. The narrative didn't do anything that made me stop and take notes. It exists. It moved me forward. It ended.

Post-game? I found virtually nothing. No Battle Frontier. No additional legendary hunt. No unlocked zones. No rematch system. No second region. The expedition just... stops. For someone like me who lives in the post-game — who measures a region by what happens AFTER the credits — this was like running full speed into a brick wall.

FIELD NOTE: Post-game is NOT massive. No Battle Frontier included. No extended content detected. If additional post-game exists in a later build, I did not have access to it during this expedition.

I cannot confirm whether this is a "completed" experience or an abandoned beta. The tags say different things depending on where you look. My boots-on-the-ground assessment: this feels like an incomplete project.

ANOMALY LOG

  • Anomaly #1: Metadata confusion — tagged as both Emerald and FireRed, both Completed and New Release. Regional identity crisis.
  • Anomaly #2: Some NPC dialogue felt placeholder-level. Generic text that doesn't reference the region's own lore or name consistently.
  • Anomaly #3: One instance of a warp tile sending me to an unexpected map. Not game-breaking, but I saved immediately and retraced. Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. — I say this reflexively now but in this region it's less about missing content and more about potentially hitting a broken trigger.
  • Anomaly #4: Encounter tables on at least two routes seemed to pull from the same pool. Possible copy-paste in the route data.

COMPLETION ASSESSMENT

I logged approximately 16 hours in this region. That includes my obsessive NPC-checking, shop-scanning, and route-combing. A straight playthrough would probably clock in at 10-12. For reference, 100% completion took me 85 hours in Unbound. This region doesn't have 85 hours of content. It doesn't have 30. The Pokedex can't be verified as completable, trade evolutions may be hard-locked, and the post-game is a ghost town.

Living Dex is possible without cheats? I genuinely cannot confirm this. And that fact alone keeps me up at night. An unverifiable Pokedex in a region with no documentation is my personal nightmare scenario. My spreadsheet has more question marks than data points, and that has never happened to me before.

FINAL FIELD ASSESSMENT

Pokemon Ancient is a region that exists. I can confirm that much. It has routes. It has trainers. It has a league. But for a completionist — for someone who needs to see that 100% before they can close their eyes — this expedition was deeply unsatisfying. The foundation is FireRed, and the creator hasn't built far enough above that foundation to justify the trip. No modern QoL. No verifiable full Dex. No post-game infrastructure. No shiny hunting support.

If nachoius continues building this region out — patches trade evolutions, documents the Pokedex, adds post-game content, implements even basic QoL like the repel prompt — I'd consider a return expedition. The bones aren't broken. But right now, in Beta 5, this region is a skeleton waiting for muscle and skin.

My Pokedex completion percentage for this region: ~37% of observed species, with no path to verify the remaining 63%. That number haunts me.

— DexHunter Ace, signing off. Pokedex: Incomplete. Status: Agitated.
