LOG ENTRY: 493-AMB // REGION: AMBAR
Status: High Alert.
Pokedex Completion: Stalled at 42%.
Sanity Level: Critical.
I touched down in the Ambar region expecting a fresh hunting ground, but my equipment is malfunctioning. The local atmosphere (Base ROM: Ruby) feels ancient. We're talking pre-Physical/Special split atmosphere here, people. My standard-issue DexNav? Bricked. It doesn't work in this time period. I'm operating blind without a location spreadsheet, and for a man who organizes his PC boxes by color and egg group, this is a nightmare scenario.
THE LOCAL FAUNA & CATCHABILITY
The mission brief promised "New Characters" named Xander and Ann. Confirmed. They seem to be the local protagonists. However, the biodiversity is strictly Generation 3 with some potential migrants from later generations, but without a verified encounter table, I am paralyzed. I spent four hours in the tall grass on Route 1 just to ensure I didn't miss a 1% Ralts encounter.
FIELD NOTE: The "New Language" detected seems to be a linguistic anomaly. This region appears to have Spanish origins, and the translation software (English patch) is... functional, but inconsistent. It adds to the chaos.
THE ANOMALIES (BUGS & FEATURES)
Exploration is linear but fraught with "Beta" energy. The architecture is standard Ruby, but the layout is unfamiliar. I encountered several blockers where the path forward was obscure—classic old-school design philosophy where they expect you to talk to every NPC three times.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. I found a cavern near the mid-game point that felt like a point of no return. Without a Repel system update, the Zubat encounter rate is historically accurate (read: infuriating). There is no Infinite Repel QoL here. You have to menu-dive every 100 steps. My thumb is cramping.
THE VERDICT
Is a Living Dex is possible without cheats? Unconfirmed. And that uncertainty eats away at me. There is no documentation on trade evolutions. Do I need a Link Stone? Does it even exist in the code? I checked the local Department Store—no specialized evolution items found yet. This lack of data makes 100% completion a gamble I'm not sure I want to take.
100% completion took me 85 hours in similar legacy regions, but in Ambar, the lack of modern amenities (QoL) drags the pace down significantly. This is a region for historians and archaeologists who want to see how we used to live, not for the modern Apex Hunter.
