MISSION LOG: ENTRY #384-M [MOEMON SECTOR]
Location: Littleroot Town (Or what passes for it)
Local Time: 0900 Hours
Status: Confused but collecting.
Headquarters, we need to talk about the dossier you sent me. The Intel claimed this region hosted a "deep, dark and twisted story" with "NO GYMS". I landed expecting a survival horror scenario. Instead? I'm looking at a Torchic that looks like a cosplayer in a hoodie. The Intel was clearly swapped with the file for the Snakewood anomaly. This is Moemon Sapphire. The topography is standard Hoenn, but the fauna has undergone a drastic distinct "Kawaii" mutation.
THE ECOSYSTEM: SPRITE ANOMALIES
The primary deviation in this timeline is visual. Every single entity from #001 to #386 has been replaced by "Moemon"—anthropomorphic representations. For a Completionist, this is a double-edged sword. On one hand, the sprite work by i2amroy and the collective is impressive. It breathes new life into the stale pixels of the Gen 3 era.
On the other hand, my neurological need to fill the Pokedex is screaming. Why? Because underneath the cute sprites, the engine is Vanilla Sapphire. That means vanilla encounter rates and vanilla mechanics.
FIELD NOTE: Do not be fooled by the appearance of the Zigzagoon. It is still just a Zigzagoon. It does not have new moves. It does not have the Fairy type. It is merely a visual hallucination.
CATCHABILITY & COMPLETION ANALYSIS
Here is where the mission goes south. I ran the numbers on my spreadsheet. Since this is based on the original Sapphire engine without modern QoL patches:
- Trade Evolutions: Still present. Alakazam, Machamp, Golem? Unobtainable solo unless you're running a dual-instance emulator setup.
- Version Exclusives: Mawile, Zangoose, Solrock? Missing. They belong to the Ruby sector.
- The National Dex: Locked until post-game, as per standard protocol.
I wish I could say a Living Dex is possible without cheats, but this region is stuck in 2003. Unless you have a rom-compatible save editor or a friend with Moemon Ruby, you are hitting a hard wall at around 80% completion. That empty slot for Groudon (since I'm playing Sapphire) is mocking me.
THREAT LEVEL & MECHANICS
The Intel regarding a "Level 45 Groudon" being balanced was... interesting, but irrelevant here. The threat level is BASELINE. If you've navigated Hoenn before, you know the drill. The Gym Leaders (yes, they exist, contrary to the corrupted Intel) use standard lineups. However, the visual novelty does lower the fatigue of grinding. Staring at a cute Gijinka Poochyena is marginally better than staring at the same pixelated dog for the 500th time.
MISSABLE EVENT WARNING! Save before entering the Cave of Origin. If you knock out the Legendary Kyogre (Moemon form), it's gone. The auto-save features of modern regions do not exist here. One crit and your 100% run is dead.
VERDICT: A VISUAL COAT OF PAINT
This expedition was purely aesthetic. There are no physical/special splits, no infinite TMs, and the bag space is still atrociously small. 100% completion took me 85 hours, largely due to the slow grind of vanilla experience curves and hunting Feebas on those six specific water tiles. If you are here for the sprites, it's a 5/5 museum tour. If you are here for the hunt? It's a relic.
