LOG ENTRY: JOHTO SECTOR (GBA SIMULATION)
Timestamp: 85:12:04
Location: Mt. Silver Summit
Pokedex Status: 386/??? (Anxiety Level: CRITICAL)
I have just returned from the Moemon Heart Gold expedition. Let me be clear: this is not the Johto you know. The physics engine is distinctly FireRed (GBA), yet the map data has been terraformed to replicate the HeartGold architecture. But the most jarring anomaly? The fauna. Every single specimen has undergone a radical biological metamorphosis into "Moemon"—anthropomorphic entities resembling human cosplayers. I caught a Sentret that looked like a toddler in a hoodie. I don't care if it's cute; I care if it registers as #161 in the database.
THE CATCHABILITY CRISIS
My neurological need for a 100% completion rate is screaming. The intel on this region is a contradictory mess. Reports claim "You cannot catch all Pokemon," yet simultaneously boast "All Pokemon in 7 gens." Do you have any idea what that does to a completionist's blood pressure? I spent six hours headbutting trees in Azalea Town just to verify if Heracross was in the encounter table.
Here is the reality of the hunt:
- The Good: The Kanto-Johto Dex seems mostly intact. Link Cable item is available in Department Store. Huge W. This means Gengar and Alakazam are viable targets without needing a second operative.
- The Bad: The "7 Gens" claim appears to be unstable. While newer species exist, their distribution is chaotic. I found anomalies in the tall grass that shouldn't exist in this timeline.
- The Ugly: There are gaps. Massive, gaping holes in the National Dex that no amount of walking in tall grass will fix. For a Living Dex hunter, this is a nightmare scenario.
ANOMALIES AND EVENTS
The region features a localized phenomenon known as the "Renon Tournament." It's a high-level gauntlet designed to test your team composition.
Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave. If you engage the tournament organizers without a fully EV-trained squad, you will be wiped, and I cannot confirm if the exclusive rewards are retrievable upon a second attempt. I didn't risk it. I reset my save file three times just to be safe.
VISUALS AND QOL
Visually, the sprite work is the primary draw. If you enjoy the "Moemon" aesthetic, the quality here is consistent. However, the interface is still bound by the limitations of the GBA engine. We are missing the touch-screen convenience of the actual HeartGold logs. Navigating the menus feels archaic compared to the source material.
100% completion took me 85 hours—or rather, what I assume is 100%. Without a verified master list, I am staring at empty slots in Box 14 and sweating profusely. Is #493 missing because I'm bad, or because it wasn't coded in? This ambiguity is torture.
FINAL FIELD NOTES
This expedition is for a specific type of explorer. If you want the Johto map on a GBA emulator and you prefer your monsters to look like anime characters, this is your sector. But if you are a hardcore completionist who needs that "Certificate of Completion," proceed with extreme caution. The database is incomplete.
